Ok here is another thread about spearing the keys. I am planning a trip with a friend of mine who is just getting into this sport and we are on our way to the keys this Dec. or the first part of '07 and would like to extend an offer to any of you to meet up with us.

I thought that the keys would be ideal with all the shallow water and all the reefs and such for him to get the hang of it. can anyone tell me if I am barking up the wrong tree with the season (hurricane) and such.

Also after looking up the seasons on fish it looks like just about everything is in season!

Thanks guys!

Hi Trident,

For a winter trip, no hurricanes but cold fronts may mess with your diving. Figure 3-4 days out of a week for bad weather. Might be more or less. Vis on windy days will probably be zilch unless you are out on the edge of blue water. A better time is late October or around Memorial Day, less chance of a hurricane, few cold fronts, less divers.

The keys get a lot of spearing preasure, and fish will be slim and spooky unless you have some local knowledge. You will need a boat.

Hope that helps,

Connor

Thanks Connor that is a big help. I have a boat 30' that only drafts 2' and is docked up in Palm Beach, so I was planning on gettin' 'er down there to go exploring.

Oct. is just a little to quick to pull the trigger :) . Any other times or locations. I heard the bahamas are good if you get up into the little islands on the north. Low tide will just be enough water to keep the boat off the bottom and will probably live out there for a couple of days hunting and drinking!

With a 30 ft boat, why in the world would you go to the keys instead of the Bahamas? Once you are across the Stream, everything is better, vis, fish, weather, you name it. Its a lot closer too.

OK, so maybe I'm a wee little bit biased, the Bahamas are my thing. If you have not taken a boat across and want to explore some of the dos and don'ts, PM me.

Help! Im looking for a spot to rent a house or something on the beach in a good spearing spot on the island. I will probably bring my boat over so a dock or marina is always a plus... I have found a coulpe of joints but were really expensive! Any help would be great.

Thanks guys

Is anyone interested in joining me this January (dates are not set yet) but my friend is coming down with me and I think we are Bahamas bound! I have heard the sharks get a little curious when you have fish on...! :D

Might have to :martialem with the ugly stick!

Also we are going to do a little hookah diving/spearing in the palm beach or miami area on the trip too!
