They've had day 1 of the CMAS spearfishing world championships today in Croatia. As expected, Mediterranean countries are ruling, and the local team Croatia is leading in its home waters.
Day 2 will set things, with basically 4 men (2 Croats, a Spanish, and an Italian) fighting for the final victory. The runners up have littile chance...

As for DAy 1, the only susprising result is for Great Britain with Lee Deighton, who made it to the top ten (he's 9th place) and for Tahiti's Vaihoarii who came from very far to score a brilliant 8th place.

For the rest, here's the usual suspects:
1 Gospic (Cro) 17000 pts or something
2 Carbonell (Spa) 15000 or smthg
3 Buratovic (Cro) 14000
4 De Silvestri (Ita) 13000
5 Marinov (Cro) 11000
6 Kerejeta (Spa) 9000
7 Bellani (Ita) 6800
8 Taeatua Vaihoarii (Tah) 6100
9 Deighton (UK) 5506
10 Sideris (Greece) 4646
11 Burmester (S. Africa) 4500
12 Soto (Chile) 4142
13 Barteloni (Ita) 4000
14 Lopez (Spa) 3662
15 Jaatinen (Fin) 3000 (not Jim Carrey :vangry).

Big congratulations to Croatia! Making the comp in their home waters was no doubt an advantage, but their victory is huge and clean.

I'm happy for Italy's Silver in teams comp and Bronze individual with De Silvestri. Italians were the first runner up's behind the home team, with 2 men in the top ten (and 3 in the top 11): quite an achievement.

Big thumbs up to the UK for Lee Deighton: an englishman in the world's top ten gives justice to the impressive improvements of the British spearfishing scene we're witnessing here on Deeperblue.

Congratulations to Croatian team, well won.

Unfortunately, as spearfishing destination, there is still enormous amount of work to be done to lift itself of the bottom of the list.
