I have a 75cm Beuchat espadon. I love it to death but people are right, it could do with a bit more power. Obviously the best way is to replace the bands, BUT is it possible to shorten the bands I have, will this result in better power?

As all bands tend to perish I usually shorten the bands on all my guns about halfway through it's life span. Not a lot, only about 1.5 to 2cm on each side.

It always surprises me what a big difference this makes and on my 2 band guns I usually feel a marked increase in recoil.

So yes, shortening the bands will have an effect on the power.

There is of course a limit on everything and a band can only stretch so far before it will break. On a number of occasions I've seen spearos hurt themselves when a band breaks due to old age or being overstretched so be careful with this.

Thanks landshark. Might do this but work on getting some bigger bands soon.

Ended up buying an 18mm band which arrived yesterday. Will let you know how it goes when our water clears up!! I was surprised at the difference between it and my stock 13mm band!!
