Hi, my speargun is playing up, maybe someone has some insight about what is wrong and if there's a way to fix it. I'm using a Pelaj Typhoon, the spear isn't treated so it picks up rust fairly easily, I just cleaned it off using some sandpaper and rust converter. Now when I load the spear on the rear notch it pulls right out of the trigger mechanism, and sometimes on the front notch too. So its not being held in by the trigger properly and with enough force just pulls right out.

Taking the rust off should have only taken a tiny amount, but does it mean the spear is useless now? Or is it a problem with the trigger? Is it possible the attachment point on the spear has just become rounded and making more of a step on it will help?

Any suggestions welcome.. I don't want to go buying new parts until I
know what the issue is, and it'll be great if its fixable, currently
its pretty much useless and dangerous.

Very difficult to say without seeing the gun - how old is it to start with?
Also I am not familar with the make & model, what length is the gun, what size & number of bands?
The problem is - as you seem to realise anyway - is a gun is a not a toy but, a very dangerous weapon especially one that misfires!

"O" & welcome to db :)

I got it 2nd hand so hard to say, but i'd guess two years old, i've had it for a year with a fair bit of use (avg bit less than once a week).

I think the trigger is standard on all the Pelaj guns (correct me if i'm wrong) so should be pretty decent. Its using a single 18mm rubber.

The gun has been fine until I cleaned the rust off the spear. I also sprayed some WD40 into the trigger mech, but that should be fine isn't it? I put lanolin spray on the spear but it'd only be a trace amount (only done once).

wd40 isn't that good to parts, that need to be lubricated

it's great to remove rust, but if you got a mech, that needs oil in it, it will remove the oil too

another thing that can be is that the part of the trigger mech, that holds the spear is worn out, and needs replacement, meaning it doesn't hold the spear like it used to anymore

My Pelaj done this

I had to get my trigger mech replaced twice from Pelaj

Contact Pelaj (they are well aware of this factory issue) or the dealer you bought the gun from

Yes, sounds like a trigger mech. problem to me too. Have you washed out the trigger mech to make sure there is no grit/sand/mini pebbles jammed in there? The Rob Allen railguns aren't supposed to need lubrication - expect Pelaj are the same - but I doubt if WD40 would do any harm, esp. if you wipe if off afterward (to avoid reaction with plastic parts).

Is the line release fully down? On some RA mechanisms that can affect loading - they've improved the design a couple of times since then though.

I don't know about the Pelaj railguns but the RA's have a removable trigger mechanism "cassette" - good idea, v. easy to replace.
