Speargun rubbers/bands

Hi guys

I'm not going to be spearing for a few months (bugger! ) and i've been told that a good way to maintain the rubbers is to put them in a zip lock bag and into the fridge or freezer.

Just wanted to get some views on anyones experiences with doing this or if there was a better way of storing the rubbers.

I used to put them in a ziplock in the fridge, and I think it really did extend their life. I finally quit doing it because I usually take at least two guns with me on the boat, and each has three bands, each of which is a different length from the others, so it was just too much trouble to get them back on in the proper places. I prefer to make new bands a big more often.

But if I were generally using just one gun and each of the bands was the same length, I might do it.

At the moment i've only got the one speargun and it has a single 18mm screw in rubber. Hopefully I get another for Christmas!

Then I think it would definitely be worth doing it.

I usually place my bands or bulk lengths in ziploc bags and then spray some silicone or Armor-All (which I think is essentially silicone) inside - no need to freeze. I recently made up some bands from rubber that was a couple years old, but stored in the manner described - they work great and show no signs of deterioration.

Throughout the season, and especially if I'm on a boat, I will wipe the bands down with Armor-All after exiting the water. I think it acts somewhat like sunscreen does for our skin. Its worked for me.
