Speargun Shock Cord

Hi All,

Just setting out on the road to spear-gunning and had a quick question on the Cressi Comanche. Had a few too many home brewed ginger beers last night and ended up browsing some online shops - A Comanche 75 should now be in the post

However I see with all the rigging of spear gun topics most have a shock cord attached to the gun and then the line. Does this come as standard with the Comanche and if not how important is it? Secondly what are the advantages over a Mono line compared with what I gather is the standard nylon line?

Sorry for the newbie questions!

Hi Tim

Shock cords/bungees keep the mono tight when the guns loaded. Mono and cord have a bit of stretch when they new. the more you shoot the gun the looser it will become. Make sure the shock cord is pulling the mono when you rig the gun.

they also help to prevent the spear ripping out of a fish.

they come in three basic designs Pigtail, snap swivel and plain.

The pigtail and snap swivel allow you to unclip the monoline to either change spear or to thread a fish off the mono.

If you hit a bass with a head shot it can be a bugger to pull the shaft back out with the flopper engaged. Easier just to push it through the head, unclip the mono and push it out.

The problem I have with the snap and pigtail is the noise they making when you track a fish, the banging on the barrel can freak the fish out so im a huge fan of the plain bungee.

Hi the difference in mono & nylon is week or a season upgrade to mono when you can.
I don't think your gun comes with a shock cord but you can one for about a £5 .Shock is a must to keeping your spear.

Thanks for the replies chaps, an order for a shock has been placed! Now very much looking forward to setting it all up once it arrives and getting in the water.

Will get some mono as well when I can.
