next week i am going to LA with my wife to visit her best friend, so i am going to have lots of time to dive and surf. i live up north of san francisco and don't know any spots down there. i've been looking on the internet at some spots near palos verdes, corona del mar and west of malibu.
i dive usually in about 20-50' of water with lots of kelp and usually spend 30-60" under. i'm no expert but have gotten pretty used to bad entry conditions up north.
so i am just wondering if anyone can give me some good recomendations on places to freedive and shoot fish and also some easy entry sports for a scuba dive to do some photography. how is the visibility down there? if anyone is interested in meeting up and going diving that would be cool. i dive alone a lot up north but its always more fun when someone is there.
thanks

Hi, you can try posting in this thread http://forums.deeperblue.com/california-west-coast/71035-newport-beach-ca-area-27.html and see if anyone responds. We have a pretty good contingent of LA area divers, and I'm sure someone can go with you. I'm nowhere near the area, so I'm out.

Per DFG regulations, make sure you have your South of Point Arguello stamp if you plan on spearfishing. For some idiotic reason, you have to pay for that on top of the price of the regular fishing license.

I hope your trip turns out well, and that you find someone to dive with :)

If this isnt too late, I dive a lot in Orange County and wouldnt mind taking you with me for a shore dive. Vis wont be stellar and we wont be going more than 40 feet down. But we can find some sheephead and calicos and sandbass, lobster and maybe a nice halibut.

PM me if interested.

hey thanks for the offer. i ended up diving in PV, it was ok. didn't shooting anything, didn't see anything worth shooting, but it was cool. where do you go in orange county? i will probably be back down that was around christmas time.

I would have responded, but the chance of a white sea bass or yellowtail is so slim this time of year that I probably won't be back in the water until late February. I keep my boat at Dana Point Harbor. Maybe we can get together some time if you come in the spring through fall period.
