Hi everyone!

I am in Westport CT for a month for work and I absolutely love the area.
I stay in a house overlooking the bay, we can fish off the porch. Water is so warm I go for a swim with no wetsuit, vis. so so depending on a tide.
Lots of Striped Bass around here, after work I am going fishing with my coworkers but I'd rather go underwater to get my fish. Neighbors, boaters and other fishermen here have no idea about laws and rules when I ask.
So I guess this is the right place to ask all related questions starting with "is spearfishing even legal here"?

Appreciate any suggestions

cheers

Hello Nostres,

No, unfortunately spearing striped bass in CT is indeed illegal. To hunt stripers speros from CT usually drive to Rhode Island or New Hampshire, where it is legal to spear them. I am from MA, where it is also illegal to spear them, and have to drive to these two states for stripers as well.

Hope this helps.

Claudio

I am back in Westport, CT for few more weeks and would like to meet local spearos for a hunt. Anyone here planning some dives soon?
