Spearing in Costa Rica (Quepos)?

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 90 days.

Gonna be in Quepos end of May. Not sure if it is worthwhile to try and do any spearfishing. I know they have lots of the big offshore sportfishers for Sailfish but can you rent a panga and go inshore? Is it any good for Pargo/Snapper or Grouper?

Any advice appreciated, thanks!

I was in CR back in 94--stayed near Playa Negra in Guanacaste. The inshore waters there were absolutely lousy with grouper!! Not sure if spearing them is legal though.

Would love to here follow up trip report! We are planning a trip for 3rd week of March 2008. Or just call or E-mail me and we can shoot the breeze. BTW I can help with trips to SC / NC if your interested. We have the 20# plus Hogfish.
