Hello,
I am new to this site and would just like to say that the information that I have found here is really awesome! The rigging thread by miles was really helpful. Also the kayak thread by Mr. X, as I have been thinking about getting my hands on one.
I am based in Japan, where the laws on spearing are very vague to say the least, and cause nothing but problems. Each area has different laws, you can, you can't, you can if .... One good one I found was in one area you can use a pole but are not allowed to wear mask or goggles!
So I have decided it is time to try spearing in other areas. I plan on heading to Saipan in Nov and am wondering if spearing is legal there, and, if it is, are there any laws regarding what can be caught and when. If anyone can shed some light on the matter it would be very much appreciated.
Cheers!

Hiya

Welcome to DB!!!

I recall seeing a japanese spearfishing club's website. Can't remember the details. Your best bet is to ask your local dive shops for the contact details of a spearfishing club. I'll see if i can find that Japanese Spearfishing clubs site again!!

Regards
miles

Spearing must be legal because last summer they had spearfishing as a one of the sports in the Micronesian Games held in Saipan. A buddy from Guam, who finished 2nd, gave me the heads-up.

Miles: many thanks for the links. I will check them out an see it they shed any light on the dark and twisted intricacies of the Japanese fishing regulations. I hope that they do as I plan on going out next weekend!

Ted: thanks, that is good to know. I am heading there, hopefully, with a couple of friends and we were planning on getting a day or two in spearing.
