Spearing in your country

Hi, My name is Alex and live in sydney. i'm intrested to hear about spearing in your country. things like what fish are prized where you come from, what's reguraly incountered and what gear is used. Anything else thats intresting?

From what i know-which isn't alot but...
Here in Australia the most prized reef fish found in bottom half of the country is snapper or

Some other species that are "prized" are
Reef
Bream-acanthropagus australis
Jewfish-argyrosomus hololepidotus

Peligics
Kingfish-Seriola lalandi
Smason fish-seriola hippos
Cobia-rachycentron canadus
Spanish mackrel-scomberomorus commersoni/semifasciatus
Dolphin fish or mahi mahi-coryphaena hippurus

WE also get marlin but not alot have been taken.... yet
Every year charters are organised to the coral sea off queensland to cato reef an offshore mountain/pinacle or other places where Dogtooth tuna and Wahoo get shot. Wahoo up to 40kg and dogtooth to 83kg so far.

The average diver uses a 1m rail gun especialy in competitions. We have Allimens, Bluewater classic and a few other comps. Bigger guns are used in other parts for bigger fish.
