Hi Guys,

Headed to Ottawa and then to a Buddies cottage near Wakefield Quebec, and hoping to spear while there.

If anyone is in the area I would appreciate a partner and some local knowledge.

Spots to try? prohibited areas? I think the lake the cottage is on is a private lake, but depending on vis/fish etc. want to try the Gatineau river and maybe some other nearby lakes etc.

I learned to spear in Portugal and have speared in Australia as well, mostly shore diving, so not a newb, but haven't done fresh water before.

Let me know if your in the area and want to go for a spear, also have car so can go a bit further or meet in between Wakefield and Ottawa.

Will be checking this but try emailing me or texting

Have fun. Was in Gatineau 2 weekends ago and got a nice sized pike.

Freshwater is LOW vis generally. There are exceptions.

Get on the bottom / near structure (drop offs / weed lines) and wait.

Short guns (60-80cm) or even pole spears work in low vis.

Use a buddy, be safe and have fun!
Post pics of your dinner... Unless its store-bought.

Thanks for that apneaaddict,

any specific spots you can recommend? I've done some rivers with low vis in Australia, will be nicer knowing there is nothing that wants to chomp on me in these lakes and rivers, lol

Packing two guns, 90 and 75 and a hand spear, how cold is the water? i'm bringing a few wetties just in case

Thanks again

In contained lakes in QC, it should be quite warm by now. It was 18-22* I think and I was swimming a lot / covering a lot of ground.

I wore a 5mm but should have worn the 3mm instead.

Meech, Philippe, etc are ok. They all hold fish. Mostly bass and perch I think.

The more remote the lake, the less fishing pressure generally.

Google the species you want to target and look where line-fishermen go for them.

Watch out for boats and drag a float if you can.
