Welcome from Texas! If it was me I'd get a 7mm suit but then again I'm a wuss to REALLY cold water. Foxie is a great resource. There are plenty of "The Queen's Own" right about you. I know they'll all get you set up square. :friday

Welcome Grayman. Reckon you should enjoy relatively good fishing into November. Maybe longer in S. Devon. ;)

Cheers for the warm welcome everyone.

I do meed a custom diving suit but have other spending priorities at the mo unfortunately but I do plan to get a custom suit for next winter.

Planning an early session at Hope Cove tomorrow if the SW swell fails to hit Challaborough.

Crap.

Vis was rubbish. Saw nothing but Ballan Wrass and juvenile Pollack. I'm not averse to Wrass. Pig to fillet but pretty tasty. Missed the lot though. :(

I have a short (60cm) gun at the mo but going longer (75cm) in April so hope to do better.

I swear to god the spear bounced off a few though!

My 2 cents worth: 75cm was all I needed in Devon 2007 & 2008 (I took a 90 with me but never used it - it would not have helped). 75 is a v. good size for Dorset & S. Devon in my experience. An 80/82 might be an interesting compromise - if you are looking for a noticeable increase in range/power.

I now tend to think: Cornwall 90cm, Devon 80cm, Dorset 75cm, Sussex 68cm (Eric's gun:D) but would be happy to use my 75 is all of those locations. There are the odd days when a 100/110cm gun would be handy, not many though:D.

[FYI My 75 is an Omer XXV which has a spear 5cm shorter than most 75s. Its barrel has a 25mm diameter rather than the more usual 28mm, and it has a low mass (carbon-fibre barrel and super-slim Omer T10 handle), 18mm rubbers. A regular 75 will probably have at least 5cm more range than mine (although I sometimes use a double wrap of spearline - I don't recommend this though). There is an 80/82cm version of the XXV - check eBay Worldwide if interested. I also have the 90cm version (to act like an 80 vs. my RA 90) but I never use it.]

Oh, I see you already have a Seatec in mind. Seatec have a good reputation. No 80cm version at the above link, so that might simplify the decision.

To conclude... 75cm should be fine then!
