Hey there.

One trend I've noticed (well over here in New Zealand especially) is that
Spearo's boats are usually a bit like patch work quilts.

By my observation a spearo's boat is usually a collection of Auminium chopped and tacked together with a dirty great outboard hung on the back. This assortment of parts looks like something out of the movie Mad Max.

It makes sense really, as a spearo you're less interested in water skiing and being a fat and bald poser in speedo's, besides all that wallnut trim and plush leather would be hard to keep clean of fish blood.

Nope as a spearo you're generally more interested in pure, simple, FUNCTION.

As a spearo you want a boat that will hold you and your dive buddies, all you're collection of spearguns, floats, fins. etc etc etc

You'll also want to get out to the spear fishing grounds as quickly as possible, (or atleast beat those other guys) and have somewhere to store all the fish you shoot while you're there.

I guess spearo's don't expect much really!rofl

Now to the point,

I've started this thread as a place to put up photo's of the DIY/Modified/homebuilt boats that you guys spearfish from. If you've done the work yourself and can share a short blurb about what you've done all the better.

Here's My Rubber Duckie.

His name is Donald. Because what else would you call a Rubber Duckie?

After

The Centre consol and seat I made myself

Here's a pic of the old boat my dad and I built.

It was powered with a 3.0L V6 out of a Mitsubuishi V3000 This engine was driving a 2stage Hamilton Jet unit.

What a boat!!!
that’s got to be one of the best bits of kit I’ve ever seen, I mean just look at, beat to hell with a dirty great motor. I bet it was a lot of fun flat out across the water.
Got any more pictures.
Have some boat envy rep.

Ive had a quick look and I can't find any more digital photo's of it.

But if you liked that this is what my Dad has replaced the old tub with.

It's a similar rig but bigger, faster, and powered with a Chevvy V8 and Hamilton 212 Jet Unit

Brilliant mate, all it needs is Mel Gibson or Kevin Costner at the wheel with maybe a .50cal on the front and it’d be perfect.:martial
Makes my 5.5meter rib look like a toy!:head

To Shrek, or any of the other NZ spearos who are reading this.
