Spearos in Northern Ireland ??

Hi all
I am new to the spearfishing scene, got introduced to the sport by a friend and done my first trip in St Austell in Cornwall and safe to say I'm hooked. I currently live in Lisburn, Northern Ireland and I'm finding it hard to find anyone who has the same interested in the sport. I've been out twice so far in Millisle and Donagadee, I'm very interested in heading over to Donegal and the west coast of Ireland. If there's anyone out there that would be willing to give me tips or advice on the best places would be great or even lto show me the ropes as I'm willing to travel

just too add to my previous post.... been out quite a lot over the past month with no joy so went on a family day too the beach and decided to take all the gear with me and to my joy found some lovely spots. So far I've had 2 mullet one weighing 5lb and the other 4lb, also managed to get a nice 2lb sea bass. So any one in Northern Ireland needing a dive partner get in touch. Cheers James

Well done Jimmer,their should be some great Pollock marks up North,Carlingford loch is also meant to be good for Bass /Mullet ,happy hunting.

Thanks mate, only started spearfishing in Easter so still have a lot to learn lol. I just can't seem to find anyone in northern Ireland thats into spearfishing.

Looks like you've got the hang of it There are several forum members in Ireland, not sure about N. Ireland specifically - if not then perhaps you will be the pioneer/founding father?

N. Ireland has been getting a lot of press this week, with the Queen visiting & the Game of Thrones locations. Perhaps now is the ideal time to promote N. Ireland as a spearfishing location/destination! Looks promising.

I have taken your advise and i am in the middle of making a Facebook page to promote Spearfishing in Northern Ireland, once the page is up and running i will send you a link and maybe you could add to the page posting tips or any other Spearfishing links to the page.

There are a number of very active and experienced spearos here in NI. We are just not that active on DB. I live in Lisburn too and would be happy to hook for a dive.

Hi jonny thanks for the reply, yes need to meet some local spearo's, the only place I've really been going is tyrella beach lots of mullet and the odd bass swimming in the shallow rocks, were is it you normally dive ? I want to hit the north coast but have been warned of bad currents and rip tides ?? I'm only free on the weekends so would defiantly meet up for a dive

Currents are not that bad. Just need to get your tides right. I mainly dive the north east and north coasts. Lots of good marks around. Pollock are my favourite quarry but you get everything. I try to dive when conditions are good and usually then before 7am or after 7 pm. I've a young family so diving during the day doesn't really work. Are evenings an option?

Yes evenings or mornings would suit, I normally go on a Sunday leaving the house around 5-6am so I'm back home for around lunch time it keeps the fiancee happy lol. Il pm you my mobile number then can arange for whenever suits.

Yes send me your number. Can't find the pm option when using my phone at minute! It's looking like conditions and tides might suit on sat fri evening. Bit of swell possibly though which would screw the viz. onshore wind tyrella would wreck it there too.
