special fins carbon monofin vs waterway glide monofin

I wanted to get opinions on which of these 2 fins would be better for cw dives and what stiffness would be best

If it's performance your after the ww Glide or any other hyper type fin i.e. leaderfins hyper, tropol, triton will blow away any of the bi-fin pocket type fins, some people think the pockets are not comfortable but as long as you can put some time in with the fin its no problem I wear mine for hours without cramping, the specialfins on the otherhand might be easier transition if you are used to bi-fin pockets. I use medium and soft ww blades, lean more towards the soft in salt water especially in the super dense hawaiian water but medium works too.
 
Why do monofins come in different stiffnesses anyway?

My specialfins monofin is medium stiffness. Is that good?
 
the harder the fin the more power it has but the more energy you will consume, initially mono's were created for finswimmers hard for sprint, soft for long distance etc. so it depends on your swimming preferences, also your height, weight, muscle all come into play a very heavy muscular person might need a hard fin to do for them what a soft fin would do for a light skinny person, also your fin will behave differently depending on whether water is salt or fresh, hot or cold a blade that might work for you great in the pool might feel to heavy in really salty water.
 
Thanks for the info. Ilm 6 ft and weigh 215 lbs and ilm stalky so what to stiffness would be best ?

ask them with 30 ºC otherwise you will regret sometime I would say that medium blade is good for you hard in the worst chances but if try a soft the softer the blade the better but handling a certain stifness is different from being efficient with it
 
30 degree angle i think you ment not degrees C for temperature. if your gunna do that you want to make sure your back is VERY flexible or you wont drive the blade as easily. i've found that most people cant drive a fin with this much angle.

i'd recomend 22-25degrees as ample then just work a bit if ankle flexibility. but thats just my opinion.

but either way any of the Hyper style fins are going to be better, preference for me would be a triton or Russian Hyperfin.

matt- I use medium and soft but lean much more towards the soft now especially in hawaii, I have enough strenth to handle a stiff blade but I think I get more out of a soft-just my opinion keep in mind companies stiffness varies I use waterway and waterway soft is a bit stiffer than soft of other brand
 
if you get the special fins carbon - I'd recommend the medium blade. I've got a hard blade and struggle with it. It's harder than their normal hard blade.

I think u are right DivingDane old habits dye hard :head considering is weight maybe working on ankle flex would be better (except if he has a good back)
