I have been offered a second hand of "Special Fins" "Classics" - has anyone got any experience with these and would they be suitable for spearfishing? They look rather short and wide.

I am tempted by them, as I also play underwater hockey - and I think - though am not certain that they would be acceptable...

I have a very similar model, kelpies, a bit short and wide, almost no rails on the blade, end of the blades rounded, not cup shaped. Outstanding spearfishing fin, very maneuverable, mediums had very good power. What foot pocket do you know will fit with them?

They come with some Omer pockets - I think the size will work for me 42/44 - I am a UK 8.5 - but will be wearing socks so should be ok I think?

Do you think it would be possible to use these “Special Fins” Classics for underwater hockey as well as spearfishing. I have used the Mares Quatros in the past for underwater hickey but typically my spearfishing fins are more conventional long narrow free diving fins. Having said that I have moved to the UK and can see some advantage to shorter fins if poking around in holes, rocks etc.

Will they feel very different?

When I played hockey I used Jet-Fins. I think my SpeccialFins Blue Water Specials would have been to awkward (too many players that could get in the way, broken fins pushing off the bottom and many other obstacles). The Mares should be great for Hockey, and use the SpecialFins for diving.
And, yes, the SpecialFins blades are great for diving. I've been abusing mine for probably 15 years

I have recently purchased the Scuba Pro Nova Wings Gorilla. This is to replace my very much abused Scuba Pro Jet Fin which I have been using since 1994. And was very much satisfied with its performance. I got the full pocket though, not the open heel type as it was not available when I ordered the fins.
You can check the review for this type of fins. Good for freediving and excellent for scuba diving.
