Special Monofin

Hello,

I'm looking to commission a custom functional monofin inspired by the dynamic structure of the Swordfish Fins Wakizashi and the older DOL-FIN Orca or Alpha designs. This is for an extended mermaid tail project—not for decorative cosplay, but for high-performance swimming and visual realism in water. The monofin must provide dolphin-like propulsion and possess an animalistic silhouette with broad lobes, ideally mimicking cetacean fluke movement.

What I’m Looking For:

A realistic, full-lobed monofin design (not split-fin or minimalist)

Propulsion dynamics similar to DOL-FIN or Swordfish models

Built from carbon fiber, fiberglass, or high-resistance polymer

Compatibility with embedded silicone/fabric extensions in a custom tail

Aesthetic finish can be minimal—function and biomechanics are the priority


I’m open to discussing feasibility, budget, and timelines with the right fabricator or designer. If you are experienced with freediving fins, animatronic motion systems, or custom underwater prosthetics, I would love to hear from you.

If you’ve touched a live dolphin they are hard, whatever surface fat they have is supported by severe levels of muscle Underneath. To create “dolphin like propulsion”, “ high performance swimming and visual realism” you’d have to cross your legs and have one foot above the other. Having made surfboards, surfmats, swim fins, fishing lures and all things aquatic, I could make it but its so customised I’d need molds of the wearers feet and legs and a lot of information about salinity, temperature, depth of use….

Hi, With experience with freediving monofins, biomechanical design, animatronics or custom prosthetics what do you think? Can you advise on material thickness, shaft bend, leg bag options and safe assembly for travel?
