Spheras Discontinued

Thread Status: Hello , There was no answer in this thread for more than 60 days.
It can take a long time to get an up-to-date response or contact with relevant users.
Oh the irony, I was trying to sell the 2 extra spheras (brand new ones) at a gathering a couple of months ago, but now one was interested.

Just try an part me with them now, bwhahahaha...

But seriously though, the new mask looks even better - but would need to try it of course.

Good news Trux... hope they get them available online at the shop. There would probably be a reasonable demand for them after this thread started

thank you so much !!!, i ll ask my friends to order them in advance before i come for visit in Lyon and pick them up.
By the way ,do you freedive in Lyon or in the region ?

Depends what you mean by "freediving". If you mean freediving as the sport discipline, then yes we have a club here in Lyon (Cyrnéa) and train in pools of Vaise, Tronchette, and Vénissieux (more details here). As for some real diving (personally I do not consider DYN/DNF and STA "diving" - from this point of view the French term "apnée sportive" is better fitting to the activity than "freediving"), then we sometimes dive in the quarry of Chamagnieu (close to the airport), or go to the Med. This year they should also complete the 20m deep diving pool in Meyzieu. If you come and want to join us for the training, when you are here, please contact the president of the club (nicolas@cyrnea.net).

I just bought 2 a couple weeks ago on amazon.com I think for 26$ each, It was hard two track down ones with black skirt but I got lucky

Heh, heh- ain't it just like that famous song:

"Don't it always seem to go- that you don't know what you got 'til it's gone . . . " :friday

In the good ol' days (pre 2009) the sphera was a relatively cheap commodity mask that happened to have excellent characteristics for freediving & underwater hockey, and nobody would even think about stocking up on 'em . . . but now, it's sounding maybe somebody should open a commodity futures exchange for 'em here on DeeperBlue

Maybe I'm being nieve, but can't someone buy the sphera mould or something, and continue making this shape mask for the freediving community? Surely it's pretty straightforward technology once you've got the basics right?

Just placed an order of 15 Sommap flow... 12 clear and 3 black

Did you find them online? I did not have much luck, but especially because of the name "flow" which is way too common, and Google giving me far too many false hits. My local store still did not receive them, and I did not manage to contact the other one in Sete yet.

I have a friend with a store. So he ( i ) ordered direct from sommap with help from my girlfriend (she is from france)

the problem with purchasing the mold and then having it manufactured is:

- purchasing molds VERY expensive
- probably require some cleaning up or a new mold
- finding a company willing to use the molds to manufacture in relatively small quantities (less than 500 at a time)

smal batch production is generally quite expensive.

small batch production is the only option because large quantities would stay in stock for too long.

similer thing happened when technisub discontinued the Ala fins, they werent willing to sell the mold from what i here so chances are they will be asking a really high price for this mask mold as well (if they are evening willing to sell it)

True.

As for Alas, I understood that a bunch of UWH players eventually managed to put a bid in for the mold, but couldn't get the right material. Don't know if they ended up paying for the damn thing, but the figure of US$25,000 comes to mind...
