Hi,

This is my first post, thanks for a great forum!

I am trying to source a spare part for an older Sporasub Aspic 90 speargun. Whilst fishing recently the white safety catch 'button' fell out of its hole and drifted down into the bottom of the fjord where I was fishing...some 50 meters down into the darkness. I have searched online for a replacement but have found nothing. I am very fond on the gun and it is useable but I cannot make it safe so would very much like to source a replacement.

If anybody out there has a similar speargun for parts or knows where I might find a part then please let me know. I have attached pictures of the fun and the hole for information.

Thanks in advance.

James

We generally don't recommend using a safety catch, they are not safe, a band-powered speargun is only safe when the bands are slack, i.e. unloaded. And yours just fell out. So, as you say the speargun still works, you have just improved it, reducing mass, inertia and unnecessary complexity ;)

If that didn't convince you, you could try contacting Omersub or Sporasub. Perhaps in the future we'll be able to 3-D print spare parts like this, or even useful, worthwhile ones. :)

Hi and thank you for the quick reply, that sounds like a good approach. Coming from a hunting background the rule is always if there is a round in the chamber the gun is not safe regardless of whether the safety is on or not, I will take that over to my spearfishing as well.

Hi you can also try to find a Sporasub Viper handle: it is the same as the Aspic.
