Anyone knows where I can find Sporasub black viper gun butts? Mine broke on a 115 and a 90! Help!

Get it quick though, because Sporasub no longer makes the viper, and the rep told me they also don't make parts for them. They've put all their focus on the new Instinct guns. (From what I've seen, I'll take my Aspic with the hammerhead muzzle and aftermarket rail over the Instinct any day...).
Ron.

Newcal, Any Mares dealer in N. CA get you parts for your guns. We have plenty. If you would like me to reference a good dealer, pm me.

Ron,
I'm not really sure why you sound so down on the instinct. I've used all of our guns I and I really like the instinct series, from the Carbon fiber all the way down to the basic Instinct one. I have never had a problem and know they shoot very accurately for me. I've seen some posts referencing the speargun test done by Hawaiian Skindiver, which said they intially had some problems but when other guns were provide they performed very well. While I'm glad you like your Aspic, I will have to say I prefer the Instincts. Personal preference maybe?

Happy Spearfishing

I will have to agree with Ron, I currently own 5 black vipers, I love them all and I never had any trouble with them in 10 years. But I am not looking at sporasub's any more, the new spora's lack the innovations or features that exists in other brands, like track under the barrel (vipers used to have that !), open muzzle.
I do like the new reel, that was an improvement from the old one.

Zak, my comment was a bit mis-leading. I'm not down on the Instincts, I just like the older guns. The reason I like the older style is that it's pretty straight foreward and I know I can dismantle it to clean it when it gets jammed up by sand. As far as the instinct guns, I've checked them out at the dive shop, and two of my buddies have them and from what I've seen, they are very well thought out and well made guns. I've never heard any complaints about the accuracy or performance. My one concern though, is that I went into the shop acutally intending to buy a 90cm Instinct Pro, but the shop cautioned me that I couldn't use mono shooting line as it would catch in the clip on the muzzle that holds the shaft in place, and that I would have to use braided line. The other issue I had was that they, (and also the rep that was there for their big seasonal sale), couldn't tell me how to deal with the trigger should it get jammed up with sand or grit. I guess if I knew how to open up the trigger area for cleaning, etc., and if I knew I could remove that clip on the muzzle and use it as a true open muzzle, I'd be a bit more willing to step into the "future" with these guns. See I shore dive and drag my guns through the sand regularly. I've had triggers freeze up to the point where the guns were unusable until I cleared the mechanism out. Not a huge issue if I can do it on the tailgate and get back in the water. Again, sorry for the way my comments sounded. I'm certainly not bashing the guns, I like almost everything about them, and the issues I'm not happy with may be easy to overcome.
Ron.

Newcal,
The Sporasub Viper / Aspic spearguns are in stock at our warehouse (45)pc. #43165032. They simply need to be ordered by a dealer. I suggest you talk with David Laird at Wallins or to another "Mares / Sporasub" dealer closer to you. If you need some suggestions let me know.

Best,

Zak
