I just, finally, got my new monofin from Specialfins. I have owned one of their Freediver "Colored" monofins for a few years now and really liked how comfortable it was, but decided to move up to carbon fiber.

While I was at it I asked if I could have it made with Sporasub footpockets instead of OMER's- since they just happen to fit my feet better. They found no problem with that as long as I sent them the footpockets- of which I just happened to have an extra pair lying around.

I haven't had a chance to try it out in the water yet, but hope to get a chance to very soon. They have been a GREAT company to work with as they fixed my last monofin, which was years out of warranty, for free! I just need to pay for shipping there and they paid for the return.

They also gave me a great deal on a Dolphin carbon fin, which ripped my feet to shreds, and allowed me to return it and get the Freediver carbon fin instead- giving me full credit for the money I already spent and even deducting some cash since I sent in my own footpockets! You, simply, can't ask for more than a company than that. :inlove

Here are a few shots of the new fin.

BTW: when my daughter saw me taking pictures of my new fin she had to go find her fins and have me take a picture of them as well.

Congratz! Your new mono is looking really cool!

And I can't say anything less about SpecialFins. I ordered a pair of the Stereofins Pros awhile back and I'm really satisfied. Got a great deal.

I'm really looking forward to try out a mono myself. I hope I can get my hands (feet) on one soon.

I got a chance to try the new fin out in the pool today, it's going to be a few days before I can hit the lake with it, and I was pretty impressed.

The footpockets fit my feet much better than my OMER's, its a personal fit issue as I know others who fit into OMER's better than Sporasubs, which means I get no "hotspots" that wear away the skin on my feet. The carbon blade also offers a better snap, but I still think that the footpockets are going to make the biggest difference of all. I had to move down to a 3mm sock instead of my normal 5-6mm sock, which I can use with my OMER pocketed fin, and that may explain why I can feel a better power transfer to the blade.

I, originally, thought that it would just be used for depth, but after putting on my front-mounted snorkel and surface swimming for 20 minutes I have now decided that I might be able to do some distance with it in the lakes this summer- again, comfortable footpockets make all the difference. I would have swam further, but it's just too hard to make that many turns in a 25 yd pool when you get to the other side so fast. A long swim in a lake will be a better proving ground for that.

Hello Jon
my congratulations.
I have the same geometry monofin but from Leaderfins and with OMER footpockets.
One question. Is your blade 100% carbon or textolit laminated by carbon?

My last Monofin from Special Fins had the OMER pockets on them- the blue one in the picture above. I find the Sporasub pockets to be much more comfortable and was very happy when I found out they could make me a fin with them instead of the OMER's- now we need to see who wil be the first to make a monofin with the new "Mustang" footpockets.

Here's a close-up shot of the blade where it looks, to me, like it's a pure carbon fiber weave.
