If we are going to drive that far away...its going to lake michigan

well let me guys know when you go maybe i can meet up with you guys and come seeing i have my license now

Look at Pearl Lake- just north of Red Granite. The old beach access site is no longer there- the place went out of business. However, if you look at a map you can see a boat launch that will get you in her.

Red Granite has great vis in the spring (I've had over 90' after ice off), but lousy this time of year. There's also not much in the way of fish. It's mainly a place to go deep. It's no where near as deep as Wazee, but before Wazee was built, or should I say "dug", this was the place to do deep diver training in the area.

ya thats where i went last year and loved it went right by the boat landing and actually had luck. thats where i plan on doing most of my stuff but just wanted to see if there was anything else. i was always going to try red granite so thats good to know. i also heard that there are the only fresh water jelly fish in the world there. thanks for the help and info

There's actually a bunch of quarries in the area if you're thinking of jumping into Red Granite. The Lohraville quarry is only a couple of miles away and there are others if you check a map. Lots of lakes not too far from there.

You may want to try out Elkhart lake and others in that direction. Pike lake would be just south of you and I've heard of some good scuba diving there, but I've never dove it- just biked the area a long time ago.

do you know if elkhart lake is clear i think i know where that is. ya i think if all goes well friday i may go to pearl lake. just got my boaters safety and a dive float so now i can go to better spots and farther than 50 feet from shore. even with being by the dock i had a lot of luck some really nice gills in there and i guess good crappie just never found them

I was in ELKHART a couple weeks ago and the vis was crappy at 10' - so, I imagine that on a good calm day you would have better vis. I've seen pics of fish speared in there, even carp. I saw LOTS of fish on the day I went, but they were small. I went on a Saturday so, there was lots of boat traffic. I would still drive to Lake Michigan if I were you. It's not that far from you. Good luck.

Elkhart lake's visibility went south around the beginning of July. Until then it's got good vis and good numbers of panfish. The bigger fish seemed to "disappear" around the time that the algae bloomed. Plenty of carp as well, if you dont mind diving pockets in the milfoil to find them.

well went to pearl lake and the vis was pretty bad i mean by the time i saw a blue gill he saw me and was well on his way. but ya pearl lake is quite a drive so i think lake michigan might be the new place to go. hey whopper wheres the spot you where talking about?

alright looks like that maybe is the next spot we go pending on if my mom lets me and my brother go lake michigan is a little bigger than pearl lake...lol
