Anyone want to meet me at SSYC @ 10:00 a.m. ?

Canoe, Kayak, or boat required....I'll be using my kayak...But I can take my canoe if someone does'nt have wet transportation.

Perch & other panfish plus lots of carp, suckers & other rough fish!!!! Hopefully the perch will still be in.

If not....Still lots of fun!

I have off on Tuesday. huh? Otherwise - I have off next Monday, Tues, Wed, Thurs - Me and a Buddy are hoping to go to Lake Mich one of those day.

I wouldn;t be able to get get there till about noon or 1pm (have to pick up Daughter from Pre-school)

Bummer :head...None of them days work for me. My wife & son are flying to South Africa on September 11th :vangry...They'll be gone for a month & a half!!! I'm gonna go crazy without them. So Monday I'll be with them...Tuesday I'll be at O'hare airport saying my goodbyes :waterwork...

She has me scheduled out all that week...But after the week of the 11th I'll be doing my own scheduling. I plan on scheduling the other guys out more and taking a day or TWO off per week. I may even go to Puerto Rico or Florida...Its so cheap to fly right now.

It looks like a good west wind blew all day and into tonight. Should be good conditions tommorow as far as vis. I may go to Kenosha if I can't get no one to meet me or go with at SSYC. Wish you could make it Whopperhead.
We'll have to set up a day for the week beginning on the 17th. The perch will most likely be GONE by then...But the carp stick around for awhile yet as do the suckers. The Salmon (chinooks) will be showing up by then...REALLY cool to see them under water.

TOMORROW.....ANYONE......I'll be there by 10:00 am.

I wish salmon were legal to spear...Chinooks should be...They're gonna die anyways. Fresh ones would put up a nice fight!

Sorry I couldn't make it either.

So, any idea on where the perch go in the Fall?

Gene

Vis was only 6-8 ft until down 20 ft. Then the vis was over 20 ft. Only saw a few smallish perch. Still lots of BIG carp and shad around though. Water was a little rough. Definantely needed a "dry" snorkel today for uninterupted face down breath ups.

Ended up polespearing one shad & one carp. The carp went about 25 pounds...My biggest so far :D...Ended up breaking my home made float line at the small carabiner attached to my kayak....Aluminum carabiners suck...Need brass or stainless. Somehow I ended up losing the whole float line. But I did get my polespear AND the carp....They were wedged up under "the pillars" ...I stabbed the carp in the head a few times and he quit fighting me...Thats what he gets for taking off with my float line!!!! A work out 'fer sure...but lots of fun!!!!

I hope the vis clears up soon! I'll be makin' me a new float line & going after giant carp as soon as it does!

I have no idea where the perch go Pinggene....Maybe they go out to the deeper water or north?

Saw lots of BIG smallmouths today....The crayfish were also out or more apparent today than usual.

Me & Whopperhead are gonna try here tomorrow for Carp, Drum, Suckers & Gizzard Shads - Hope the vis is o.k. & that the only thing "rough" is the fish!!!!

Winds have been blowin' pretty good out there - But with Lake Michigan you never know what the clarityy is gonna be like 'til ya get to the area your "working"...I'd love to find Mediterranian type conditions...But thats not likely...Will report.

Bgill, looking forward to meeting you and seeing what the big lake has to offer.

Was out with Whopperhead & Tass today. We took a drive to the big lake to check'er out. Mother Nature was not on our side today. The winds were blowing HARD from the south. So hard that waves were riding over the lower break-walls. The currents in this area can be REALLY strong at times...Even with no wind.:mute

Being the Die-Hard that Whopperhead is, he was going to swim out to the rocks and take a peek over the other side! I'm sure he could have done it - But my guess is that it would have been futile. Trying to keep your snorkle above water isn't easy in 5 foot lake swells...I've done it before and spent more energy trying to hold posistion and breath up than it was worth - Helluva work out though :blackeye. Maybe if I dropped 6 pounds off of my weight belt?

So...we turned our backs on the big lake and drove inland to the closest lake I knew of with decent vis. We drove to Lower Genesee...The vis was down as compared to usual ( only about 6 feet) - But we atleast were able to get wet there. As far as fish went I only saw a few that would've been worth it...The one carp I saw would have probably died had Whopperhead or Tass seen it - I was using a polespear & by the time I loaded it up the carp was too far for me. Both Tass & Whopperhead had spearguns - Whopperheads new Beachat looked pretty awesome! Next time I hope to see it slaying some carps!

:hmm No fish this time...It would seem ALL of the lakes are stirred up right now & vis is way down. Too bad you guys(Whop & Tass) had to drive this far just to see Lower Genesse...I'm sure you guys were pumped about Lake Michigan...Next time maybe.

:)I can't wait to come up there by you guys & dive "The Outlet" sounds like a good time. Anyways I had a good time today...Never a BAD day freespearing!:)

See ya around guys...Tass...You're hooked man. I bet next time I see you you'll have ALL of your own gear!

Whopperhead...Hella' nice camera & housing!!! I can't wait to see some CLEAR water footage! :t
