Tom,
what's the diving like on your side of the peninsula? I have dived a lot further north (Destin, Pensacola), sponge diving out of Tarpon Springs, and have mucked around at Venice Beach for Meg teeth, but have not done any freediving in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. Are there shore-accessible dives that you like in particular?

Wow, sorry for the late reply. I am going to try Siesta Key next weekend. We just came back from Skyway bridge but the visibility was so poor that we did not see a thing worth shooting. We kayak allot here so we have hit a couple reefs offshore and they do not produce many fish. I will let you know later in the summer about spots further offshore where the visibility is pristine.

Hey still looking for anyone to get out there with? I have a few weeks off from work and am hoping to find a dive partner. I'm coming from Atlanta, so i'm a little flexible. Basically if you want to go between now and June 1, I could probably be there.

Just out of curiosity, any familiarity with the Captiva Blue Hole, Naples Black Hole, the Naples Spring Hole and the Big Jack Hole? From a freediving for depth standpoint, and diving some pretty deep holes with a lot of fish, I've read these are deep, but awesome. I have never spoken to anyone who has dived them, though.

No, sorry. I'm hoping to familiarize myself with any viable locations close to Atlanta. I just spent months in New Zealand doing shore dives and am so hooked. Why do I have to be 5 hours from the beach?! What kind of depths are you typically freediving to?

When spearfishing, 3 - 90 foot, I want to keep it fun and don't want to work any harder than necessary when task-loaded...but for just banging around, maybe 120-130 fsw. I'm a little too old and decrepit for deep disciplines, but I am eyeballing Free Immersion as something I could probably do well to 225-250. Still not that deep, but about the max for my comfort zone. I'm much happier doing pool disciplines.

gotcha, I'm nowhere close to 90 feet, unfortunately. I know I could get better if i trained but to be honest probably not happening so far landlocked. I can dive 30 feet regularly, but beyond that depends on how one of my ears feels on the given day. It seems from a lot of my reading there is a good bit of scuba spearing if FL. I'm trying to arrange a charter (of which i've found 2 shea divers in tampa, and gary's gulf divers in Orange beach, AL) both scuba. In tampa and destin i've talked to a couple guys who've basically given me a no-go recommendation for shore free dives. NZ was so simple, is there shore diving in the keys? elsewhere in florida? frustrated that it seems to be a novice freediver that my options are limited to none

There are a TON of place to shore dive. Plenty at your comfort range too. We go most weekends, so drop me a line any time....oh BTW, I sent you a PM with my phone number.

Wasn's a total loss. [Imgur]()

One thing about living here is plenty of fish. The bad thing is they are sooo small. Missing the oil rigs in the Gulf Shores area.

There are some really big Hog Fish and Snapper varieties out there that are mucho awesome eating...I think the old adage location, location, location is really apt.
