Starting Spearfishing

hi i was wondering if it is worth starting spearfishing, living in the west vancouver, BC, Canada area, if so where can i go to get good luck, like what beaches or areas, also, is there any danger of sharkys? rofl

If you dont get an answer, try a few spots just diving to find out what you have there. There should be plenty of reefs and points with rockfish and perch to look at. That way you don't need to rely on someone else's judgement.
if I were doing it, i'd head north toward the ferries, and just loook for accessable entry points.
 
My mate is a marine researcher and he spears heaps in BC. Dont know any spots but he gets some mega fish all the time.
As hteas said, i'd just get in and have a swim around.
Your sharks are few and far between from what he was saying. but you never know, its just one of those things you have to overcome. Minimise your chances of attack by breaking up your shape,dont flail around like a struggling fish, try not piss in your wettie and keep blood in the water to a minimum.
Most importantly have a blast and stay within your limits.
