Hey there folks,

I have been training dry static for a few months now in an attempt to increase my CO2 tolerance and bottom times when spearfishing and lobster diving. I have managed to increase my times from 2min30 to 4min30, but I am mildly concerned about the blacking out side of long breath holding. Is there any great risk when blacking out during dry static apnea?

Thanks for sharing any info.

Marcus.

There are a bunch of if's, Marcus. I've done a few dry black outs but never a hard long one. If you're on your back and slowly increasing your times, the first black out will seem like nothing more than confusion (the clock is still running or the read-out is not what you thought it would be). If you sit up near the end, you will be able to black out a little deeper and may find yourself on the floor. I'll let others comment on damage to the body and the fact that it is different for each person.

I avoid sitting or standing during dry apnea. It increases the risk of blacking out, and the risk of injury if a blackout happens.
