I recently made up two charts to help me keep track of my training progress for free diving, and I have been itching to post it here for y'all!
I have two charts; static apnea, and dynamic apnea. For anyone who is new (like me) and doesn't understand what those mean, "static apnea" is holding your breath while holding still. I refer this as "out-of-water" breath holding for my chart. This is the one I fill out most only because I don't have daily access to water. "Dynamic apnea" is holding your breath when in motion. On my chart, it means while swimming. I haven't even touched this chart because I have no daily access to water. The pools here are expensive!
Now, the way I have these charts set up is pretty simple. Both are the same, except the name of the charts themselves. There are 5 columns in each chart, and they are listed as follows:
Date----Inhale----Change -/+----Exhale----Change -/+
Here, I'll post what my Static Apnea looks like. First, the static apnea chart:
STATIC APNEA
Date-------[Inhale]-----[Change -/+]-----[Exhale]-----[Change -/+]
1/21/08----[1:16 JD]-----[JD + :00]-----[:18 JD]------[JD + :00]
1/21/08----[2:00 ME]----[ME + :00]-----[:30 ME]-----[ME + :00]
1/21/08----[1:34 JD]-----[JD + :18]-----[:35 JD]------[JD + :17]
1/22/08 ---[1:39 JD]-----[JD + :05]-----[:33 JD]------[JD - :02]
1/22/08----[2:03 ME]----[ME + :03]-----[:43 ME]-----[ME + :13]
1/23/08----[2:07 JD]-----[JD + :28]-----[:35 JD]------[JD + :02
Okay, so there may be some questions...what are the "JD" and "ME" all about? Those are my and my fiance's initials. That's how we can tell who's time is who's. We like to save paper. Now, the column labeled as "Change +/-" is for the amount of time you gain or lose between each time listed on the inhale or exhale. Lets take "ME's" time for example. His first breath-hold on an inhale was 2:00 minutes. Just by that under "Change +/-" is "ME + :00" That means there's no difference because that's his first hold. There's no comparison to any other time before that. Now, lets skip to his next breath hold further down the chart. "2:03 ME". Just cross under the Change column is "ME + :03". That means he gained 3 seconds from his last hold. Its the same thing as on the exhale side of the chart.
I'm sure I don't need to explain in such detail, but I've had people ask, "What does that mean?" on the changes column and the initials, so I'd figure I'd explain in case some of you didn't see it. If you've noticed there's no loss charted on any of the change columns, that's because I choose the longest hold out of three attempts. Sometimes the first hold is longest, sometimes it's the third. I might have a day when the top time on all three attempts is still lower than my last time. I'll chart that highest of those, and put a "JD - (time lost from last hold). I've been charting a couple times a day, and that's why you see the same date two or three times on the chart.
So, that's my chart! Any comments, questions, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I made this chart in my Microsoft Works 2007 program. Any spread sheet program will work however (if you just can't stand using a pencil and paper that is, haha). Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go try and use the gym. $12.00 a day to swim, sheesh! Happy swimming!
