Hi,

I'm sure, every freediver made static excersize outside the pool.
For example: I am travelling wit hthe local train (1bout 15km), and yesterday I made a static serie sitting while travelling. I made the breathhold for two stations (or I tried), and then recovred for one station distance. The stations are about 1,5 minutes far - it depends on how fast the train is going. :) Usually I read while travelling, but now I didn't have nor the book, nor my PDA wit hme, so I decided to make some static, not to waste my time. :) The best time was on a one station length, a long one, it was 3'35". :) My train static PB. :)

Other thing I've heard about (and I did) is doing static in the car. Well, when you park, and wait for someone, it is ok. When you drive - it is dangerous, and should be avoided! Though easy statics I also made, while driving. Along the Danube shore in Budapest - from one bridge to the next breathold, from there to the next bridge recovery, rest. Of course this doesn't work, if there is a traffic jam.
Actually I've heard a story, when someone did a static, while going on the highway, and almost made an accident because of this.. :naughty

Jee, check out the following thread - it is exactly about this:
http://forums.deeperblue.net/freedi...-do-statics-apart-pool.html?highlight=statics

Besides it, I'd really recommend avoiding statics when driving a car, regardless if they are easy or not. It is extremely irresponsible and quite dangerous. You have to keep on mind that it is not only blackout and samba that can cause a fatal accident, but also that by doing apnea, the brain starts working in a different mode and you can lose focus on driving, have longer reaction times, reduced vision, etc, long before you feel any symptoms of hypoxia. This should be punishable by law similarly as using a cell phone, drinking alcohol, or using drugs when driving, but unfortunately it is not detectable - so we will even never know how many people killed themselves (or others) in this way.

well done Jee, i find myself also doing statics on the bus to school. there is one patch of bush that we drive past that really stinks so i usually hold my breath for about 1min before we hit that spot till well after the smell is gone. Or i do apnea walking on my way to the bus stop.

I totally agree with you about the driving notes. Now I never do static in car.

Thread: it would be nice to have that thread here. Generally, gather the threads where they belong - making it more easy to find them.

Rogert, apnea walking I also do, walking along the Danube. There are lamps every 25 step :) distance (about 20m?). Here is my routin:
breathhold (BH) : 1 lamp dist.
rest (R): 1 lamp dist.
BH: 2 lamps
R: 2 lamp
BH: 3 lamps
R: 2 lamps
... (3x-4x)
at the end:
BH: 3+ (until now max 4 lamps) :)

Again the smell: I walk near a garbage ollector place - I do the same, as you wrote, it is just I have to walk then. So strange - on opposite (about) sides of Earth, same problems, same solutions for us freedivers. :)

When I used a smelly public toilet I breathed up for a minute or so before entering and was able to exit before breathing - thank you free diving!

I always hold my breath when I go down to the basement. I always have to cover a distance of 2 floors. The easy part is to go downstairs but when you turn and walk upwards its pretty the same like your doing CW. The last floor is sometimes pretty hard. If you take the floors easy then just breath in half or breath out on the last floor.

You will see it is not sooo easy!!!

I've started doing apnea during times when it's nicer NOT to breathe! Two good examples would be when I leave the house for work in the morning and have to walk from the house to my car in the FREEZING 0 degree air - it's nice to NOT have to pull it into my lungs! - and another good example is when I'm cleaning/changing the water in my turtle's tank! PEEEE-YEW!! No inhalation = no SMELL! :D

I used to keep axolotls. I never changed the water in their tank, and never cleaned it. I just added water to make up for evaporation. They ate raw liver, so there was inevitably some mess when they were fed. They just had an undergravel filter, which was never maintained. There were no plants, and no algae except for some green crust on a few stones. There were 2 axolotls in a 60cm tank, one of 30cm and one of 15cm.

The water always remained as clear as tap water, and did not smell at all. This is a mystery which I still can't explain. If only this could be achieved in all fish tanks, life would be a lot easier. :D

What are axolotls? is this a type of fish? I have been bugging my parents to let me have a fish but they say I don't have enough time to keep up with them.

What do you all think about static in the dentist chair?:t

I recommend doing it especially when the dentist works on your old amalgam fillings - the fine dust of heavy metals is something you definitely do not want to inhale - it stays then in the body forever and slowly poisons you.

Good thing i found out before i go to the dentist later todayrofl

Sounds like your a dentist....

I have a quick unrelated question. how do i make it so other people can see my rep power?

No, not a dentist, I just know something about the topic, since my wife had a lot of metallic fillings, and had them all replaced because of health problems (hair fall and others), so we studied it quite well. The metallic filings in the mouth are indeed not a good thing for your health, but in fact removing them is even much worse, because during the process you get high doses of the metal into your body (even if it is done with the highest precaution and best technology). You then need to go through a very long detoxification cure. It means the problems first get worse before it starts getting better (it may take years).

We see it. It is zero, like at all new members, regardless how many point you already collected. You'll be able to spread some rep only after certain time and number of posts.
