Hey, been working on my static and at about 1.50 i feel an odd urge like i want to start running around. I try to calm myself down but it's tough. Any techniques or mental exercises to help cope with that feeling?

I feel like doing that sometimes too, especialy when I'm doing frc holds(functioning residual capacity). It all comes down to simply ingnoring the urge and knowing that will hurt your overall performance. Ocasionally when I do give in and hop out of the recliener I will walk in a small circle then immediately sit back down and try to relax again. Usually that urge comes at the last 30 seconds or so of my frc hold. I have gotten over the urge to get up on regular full lung statics although I am still tensing up really bad on my final 30 seconds or so. My buddy who will do holds with me still jumps up and starts walking around and even does jumping jacks...he's says it helps, but I'm holding on average 45seconds longer than him so I don't buy it.

Yea i know i shouldn't be getting up and doing stuff, i've started trying to relax and do my abc's, but sometimes it's almost completely overwhelming. I geuss i need to just work my way through them and maybe find a longer song than the abc's lol.

For my first couple minutes before contractions start I try to keep a clear head, if I do start thinking about anything I just tell myself "this hold is no problem", "I got this", "I can easily deal with the co2". Things like that to keep my confidence up and it seems to work really well. Once contractions really start to kick in fast its hard for me to think about much at all...but any thoughts that are there I try to keep positive and confidence building. Just in the last week I've switched my warm up rutine and I've added about a full minute to my average hold. Check out the thread I started, its in the beginner section titled "FRC for warm up before statics" or something like that, lol.

I used to have the same strong urges to move. At first I would get up and move, but then I started just rolling over and curling up. After more training, I would just do one big stretch while laying down by pointing my toes and stretching my arms over my head. After a little while I could resist the urge to stretch out. Maybe you could try reducing the amount of movement slowly over a period of weeks until you don't have an urge to move anymore.

In the water, static feels completely different for me. I really don't even feel "there", and the time just disappears. Have you been able to find a buddy to train statics in the water? You may not have any urge to move at all while floating suspended in water.

Yea my wet static is much better, i actually did my pb in the pool today (4.15), i've never gotten near this time dry and i really think the water helped me out with it. I'm gunna see if i can get to 3minutes dry tonight or tomorrow. I think i just need to find mental games to stay occupied.
