how many warm ups do you before going for a max in static? I used to do three, then two and now I am almost always getting my best hold on my second attempt.

Interested to hear what other people find works

doing some tables, then a short break, then attempt, got me a new PB two weeks ago....havn,t tried statics since though

Hi Sam, :wave

I normally do two "warm-up" statics before reaching my maximum for that session.

The first is normally to get my mindset right and the next is just a buildup to the main event. I have tried to just go for it with no warmup but I feel more comfortable when I have warmed up first. Anymore than three prior attempts seems to ruin my breathhold though so I stick to two or sometimes one.

For me: breathup, negative; breathup, negative; breathup, max.

I feel like a real wuse. I go 4 gentle negatives (to the first contraction) with 2 min between, then breathe for 5 min and go for the long one

I normally do two. This is both dry and in the pool. I have to do long warmups - lots of short ones just don't do it for me. There has to be a reasonable amount of fighting the urge to breathe even on the first warmup.
