g'day,

i recently purchased some 'tusa, imprex, tri-ex' fins, and i've been out with them twice.

they're fairly ridgid, which i thought was what i wanted. but when i kick in the water, they're very hard work, and place a lot of strain on my feet and ankles. (i can really feel it afterward)

is this normal? have i purchased inappropriate fins? or am i too weeny? ;)

with thanks

Hello Lisa, the tusa imprex tri fins are decent for scubadiving but quite inappropriate for freediving.

What shoesize do you have and how strong legs do you have?

I would guess you would be much happier with lets say OMER Ice fins that is not so stiff yet long and good for a woman like you to start with.

I am no expert but yeah i agree with poseidon, get a softer compound omer, or BAT maybe even esclapez immersion's. Depending on the shape of your foot. Also some leg and ankle excersizes are always a good idea. :D

The Omer Ice are great fins. Even for men with better than average leg strength. ;) You can get a pair of them and know that you will be set for quite a while to come.

alternatively you could also go with the cressi gara 3000 LD, its a great fin to start with, incedibly smooth for long distance swimming and lots of surface work, ireached 20m with them also without problemms.... try them and the omer see which fits you the best

Advantage with omer footpocket is that they are available in size 38-40 for thjose with smaller feet and the footpocket is not so narrow and the instep not so big as on the Cressi Gara3000 fins.
The footpockets from omer is removable from the blade so you can buy different plades if you like to get new blades from C4 Carbontek Leaderfins Waterway and so on.

Just my opimion that the omer fin has the edge over the cressi one.

what do people think about the omer 'Millenium Runner' or 'Winter Fins' ? the Omer Ice seem to be the go, but they are like $AUD450, wheras the others are ~$AUD250

Waterway make footpockets size 37-39 for their composite fiber fins, theyr durable and come in 6 different stifness levels... Id go with that.
