Hi,
I am considering getting a new pair of bi-fins for spearfishing with. I was just wondering what the different stiffness rating is between brands of fins. I am only a slightly built teenager and have heard reports of some hard "black" fins and Gara 3000's being to stiff and causing cramps. This has made me consider getting a "softer" fin such as Cressi Sub Gara 3000LD's or Esclapez Greens. I am looking for a fin around the same stiffness as esclapez greens.

I am slightly leaning towards the Cressi Gara 3000LD fins although I am undecided still. I know the esky greens are considered standard rigidity and the 3000LD's soft-medium, but what are they roughly on the stiffness index? Has anyone used both? How do they compare? I am interested in hearing what are other divers opinions are on the 3000LD fins? Do you believe they are too soft? I am only hunting in 15m.

Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Lachlan

Try them on if you can. The fit of the footpocket may be enough to make the difference. That goes for both fit and stiffness of the footpocket. I prefer a stiff footpocket and soft blade. I'm using Picasso Black Team footpockets, and medium SpecialFins blades to get the result I want.
One caution: many divers are using too much fin, so don't be swayed. Your choices are good. Dessault fins are a fine alternative to the ones you mention.
