I have just come back to my computer after two days and have been surfing for a few minutes, now there is this strange heatbeat sound coming from my laptop, have no idea where it is coming from, it's a heartbeat and then like a sound of a squash ball against a wall, it's freaking me out totally and it' s not coming from any of my websites i have been looking at......... any ideas??????????????????????:confused::confused:

Well I did have a rather hot curry last night roflroflrofl

hahahah rofl rofl rofl

I had a brilliant Chinese rofl so much that i was too full to enjoy the hotel room rofl

My guess is that you managed to sleep it all off ok.
And there’s always the morning ;)

If it does not come from the speakers (mute them to see whether it is the case), then it is likely a mechanical problem, and then there are practically only two possibilities: either a faulty hardrive, or a dusty or used fan. Well, if there is a CD or DVD in the drive, it could come from there too.

In case of the hardrive - right-click on it in Explorer and let it scan for errors. There are also other tools that can tell you more than the basic test, but for the beginning it could tell you something.

If it is the fan, then cleaning it and removing the dust from inside the notebook often helps, but sometimes it needs to be replaced.

Are you serious? :( It honestly sounds like its coming from the speakers.. do you use Attensa? I thought it might be something to do with that. My laptop is new :( i will take your advice though. Thanks Ivo :)

I heard that some of the more gross porn sites download a small file to your computer that plays a heartbeat sound. Now there a post I know I will have to delete in 2 minutes rofl

B*td rofl rofl

hey i think it's coming from my Maxtor....

Sara,

put Your ear to the housing of the computer and listen. - If You hear any of the sounds You can find on this site, then You better pray You get Your CD/DVD-burner, network or external diskdrive going and can still save any data You don't want to lose. :D

I guess those sounds wouldn't be easy to confuse with a heartbeat though, so You're probably on the safe side. :)

Aaah, something just sprang to mind:

Sometimes the interfering frequencies of drives and fans can accumulate to a throbbing sound that might well be confused with a hearbeat. If it's that, then You don't have to worry.
This can happen when e.g. the fan rotate at a certain speed. Try putting heavy load on the processor (run Vista, for example. rofl) or leave the machine for a while, so it can cool down. The sound should change or vanish then.

EDIT: Also, see if You have any disk inserted in any optical drives (CD/DVD/Blueray/Younameit) - remove them if so and keep listening.

HTH

Defense network computers. New... powerful... hooked into everything, trusted to run it all. They say it got smart, a new order of intelligence. Then it saw all people as a threat, not just the ones on the other side. Decided our fate in a microsecond: extermination.

Resonance? I was given a very powerful PC once (actually, more of a server than a PC) -- great you might think but it made a heck of racket. Fortunately I found it was possible to turn the speed of the fans down (mine had 2 processors - far from a full complement for the machine in question) which solved the problem.

Smart FTP eh? Must remember to avoid that one. I find Adobe Acrobat/Reader/Flash to be quite virus-like (although not as much as RealTime). It regularly stops my PC from shutting down, the latter crashed IE everytime I accessed a particular website and the former leaks (or used to leak) memory, even when apparently idle. Perhaps their history with Apple has reduced their motivation to make their Window's products work properly?

rofl

Smart FTP does a heart beat when it's not in use... when i finished uploading my batches of files i was busy on something else, it went "idle" and then started beating rofl
