Suggestions for first spearfishing trip?

Hey guys, I am looking to take a week vacation sometime this year to try spearfishing for the first time, and also to finalize my open water dives for my PADI certification. I am looking for suggestions on places to go, probably in Florida but open to other suggestions. I have heard Ft. Lauderdale, and also the keys are great places. Also, if anyone could recommend places to stay, charters/outfits and any suggestions on what gear to take vs. rent there I'd greatly appreciate it!
