Hi all,

My sister Jenna is starting to get into freediving as well, but I can't seem to find any suits that look like they're for girls, can she go with a men's one and have it fit alright, or is a custom elios one going to be the only option?

It depends how curvy your sister is. Women with a high hip to waist ratio will be unhappy with Men's suits, because they will have lots of water just sloshing around the waist.

There are several companies (Cressi, Mares) make stock Women's suits. I suspect she would be better off with a Women's SCUBA suit than a Man's Apnea suit. Check your local dive shop.

Custom is always better but often more expensive.

Elios do a budget suit too 130 euro ish, I'll bet you would be hard pressed to find an off the peg freedive suit cheaper. Worth an email

I think in Australia an Elios will be pretty similar in price to an off the rack spearo suit (closest you'll get in Oz to a freedive suit). Nearly all suits in Oz are imported anyway so you're paying for transport regardless. Ask around with your mates and see if anyone wants a new suit, you can save a bit on the postage and bank transfer fees. Hell - get yourself one too!

Cheers,
Ben

Hey Flackie,

Whereabouts in Aus are you? Obviously if you are in SA or any of the southern states its going to be more important to get a good suit. For local custom suits you could always try Seaquel. Not quite local, but only as far away as NZ. And if NZ divers know anything, its cold water.

Lots of guys in WA buy them and they are very well priced for custom suits. Seaquel Wetsuits

Good luck!

Forgot to mention:

My first response to this thread was going to be

"Damned straight - Real men dive naked" ;)

Haha I would have still went with it... except go with "Damn straight - Real women dive naked". rofl

I'd second going with Elios on this one. They are well worth the money for the custom fit and they make such a difference.

BennyB is quite right, Elios custom suits would be only little bit more expensive than a locally bought (but imported) suit. I got my elios suit (not custom mind you) for cheaper than a locally bought Picasso. This way you can be guaranteed a warm, comfortable suit.

I've got a Neptune spearo suit. They make a women's version, and they will kindof customise them for you. I'm pretty sure they won't do it from every measurement, but I got the waist slimmed down, and the wrists brought in and stuff like that. I paid about $A400 (I think) for my custom 3mm suit. They manufacture in NSW

Hey guys, thanks for the input, she's only about 5"5 and pretty fit, so I think custom is going to be the only way to do it, if anyone is interested I'll put a review up of one for girls when she gets it.

Thanks again,

haha I'm staying well out of this one, but in Australia fit means athletic, although I'm sure you already knew that..:yack

Ah, you'll have to send in a photo now for Benny to make up his own mind ;)

hi Flackie
I am quite voluptous curvaceous woman and the only success i have had with freediving suits is having them custom made, otherwise normally the chest is too tight and the waist is too big, arms and legs too long... Elios made me a great suit. I know a couple of the other girls wear Elios as well.

But surely if you are voluptuous, with all that 'bioprene' you don't need a suit? ;)
