being that summer vacation is on its way i would like to set a goal for depth this summer.
i would like to be able to dive to at least 70 feet by September. but i would like some help reaching my goal. if anybody has any tips about getting down deep that would be very help full
basically if any body has anything that might help please share.

First off, find a good dive partner. And by good dive partner I mean one that would, ideally, be a lot more advanced than you. Someone who can provide you with good advice and If your pushing your limits be sure you can be confident that your dive buddy will be able to help you if something should go wrong.

Do a search on breathing techniques and start by working on your breathhold. I thought I remember you mentioning that you have trouble clearing your ears at depth. This will most likely be your biggest challenge as it will determine whether or not you will be able to go to depth. There are numerous threads about clearing techniques as well.

what kind of fins/mask are you using? weather you want to believe it or not the quality of your gear has a lot to do with your ability do dive deep and dive efficiently. If you plan on doing a lot of deep diving long blades are a must.

Go slow too. Dont push yourself too fast as it could result in many things i.e. blown eardrum, black out...

You might try putting down the gun at first as well. Hunting at depths and more over, hauling up a fish from depth adds a whole new dimension to freediving. Wait until you feel comfortable going deep before you try bringing a gun down with you.

I would say that the biggest thing is to just dive with really good divers. Guys that are patient enough to bring out a newbie and show them the ropes. These guys are hard to come by but they are out there.

yeah i have a decent breath hold (4:30 static) the ear clearing will be my worst problem.
