G'Day :)

I'm looking at making a small bungee (around 2m, with about 2:1 stretch) and a very knowledgable mate mentioned that rather than the standard bulk rubber you buy for guns, the Riffe and so on bungees use different rubber that is more tolerant of sunlight.

I'm planning on using standard 14mm bluk rubber (purely for cost, and ease of towing through the water) but my question is, has anyone had any issues with this, and does anyone know how to sun proof them?

Cheers,

Brad

Rob Allen recomended, on this forum, to spray it w/ silicone to coat and protect the rubber. Also storage is key when not in use. Keep it in a plastic bag out of the light, ozone, and heat. the freezer is best if you have the room.

The bad part is that no matter how well you take care of it - there will always be salt-water inside :waterwork

Norprene is the only non-rot material out there. Pricey, but it lasts forever. Don't quite like how it feels stretch-wise, but unbeatable for longevity.

Norprene is a food-grade tubing used in medical or food applications where decomposition is not an option. Not quite as snappy as regular surgical rubber, it makes great bungie material due to it's longevity.

In here local speros using ordinary rubber. You may find it in hardware store. They don't strech as much as bungie and they are not durable either they even may loose it's strech property after period of time but it's cheaper than dirt. Local speros saying they are using them only when hunting AJ.
