Hi, for those interested...we had a nice dive on the Dorset Coast on Sunday.
My buddy Rowan got a 3kg (weighed on landing)Pollack which was a nice surprise:cool: ..Vis was quite variable and at times poor, tide was going low with no bass sighted!:hmm

Nice day though

Regards

Looks like you had a good day for it even if the bass weren’t playing! I get home every couple of weekends during the summer and get out spearfishing as often as possible everywhere from Hengistbury Head to Chesil. Something I think might be quite useful is if we (anybody who fishes/is interested in fishing on the Dorset coast) had a thread to swap locations, tips, and photos, arrange meet-ups, charter boats or offer trips to anyone who is missing a buddy. I think this could be pretty good as I’ve seen quite a few people from the area using this website (Busterlung, Glowworm, Kev (?), UK Spearo, Silent Assassin, etc, etc) and by having somewhere to post it’d be easier to keep in touch than by swapping phone numbers on napkins at the (excellent) Portland Oceaneering BBQs. What do people think?

Do you guys find the incoming tide better down there? or doesn't it make much of a difference? Up here its an evening or early morning incoming only, as soon as the tide turns the Bass are gone, lord alone knows where they go  Same thing in the afternoon but there are Mullet and pollack about then but we're not that keen on them so we dont bother shooting them as a rule, that 3Kg one is a cracker :king

Hey Alison, nice to see you back on here. A rising tide is always good down here but to be honest if you know where to go there will nearly always be fish...

Its grim down here with thunder and lightning etc but the vis off Chesil yesterday was 5-6m but still with the bloom.

Hi Bryn :D
I think the thunder is on its way up here now :( The viz is all over the place, we had 15m 2 weeks ago, Sunday was between 2 and 4m. We've got afternoon high tides this week so the fishing is crap! :( I think we'll have to keep looking for some good low water marks

nice pictures, looks like a nice place. Do you get any bigger kinds of fish in the UK?

Well there are Conger Eels!
Big enough?

Good point 1shot 1kill,dorset is a fantastic place to spearfish and the Spearo BBQ's are excellent but a contact board would be usefull.I haven't been in for almost two weeks a combination of weather and work. The wind just never seems to go away and everytime i choose to fish a spot the wind changes and the sea turns to home made soup.Feeling a bit down about not getting in the water at the moment i need the time to play with my weight setup.I was using 24lbs and i was struggling to get down, but i've started to use 30lb and it felt much better when diving but it's alot of weight and my belt only just copes.Keep me posted if anyone is planning a fishing trip.

Glowworm, I know what you mean about the changing winds and variable vis, hopefully the weather won't change for the worse as well! I've not been in for a couple of weeks now but am planning to be back for a couple of weekends in mid July and every weekend in August so (weather and wind permitting) i'll be getting out and about then.
I've also been using 24lbs and finding it a bit light at anything above 7/8m but think another 6lbs would be too much of a pain to cart about out of the water. I think i might get a set of 1.5kg ankle weights and try them with the 24lbs on the belt, or just put another 6lbs on the belt and get a mule to carry it.
I think a specific discussion board for 'locals' and anyone interested in getting down to the area would be useful but maybe best to put it under the 'Spearo Board' or somewhere similar? I'll get on to it and we'll have to see who is interested!

Good Lord, that's a huge eel! I didn't know congers got that big. Phew, whaddabarbecue . . .
