Thought I'd start the Sussex thread (hope this is the right way to do it),
mainly so that certain people can tell us about the nice bass and bream they caught on saturday (please Eric, would love to know some details).
Also if anyone wants to post a vis' report I'd be very greatful.

Regards,
Dave.

Dear All,

Had a quick look along Newhaven Breakwater this morning, vis' was poor, temp' on the D-3 was 10*, there was not much to see but got to try out some new bits and pieces of gear.

Regards,
dave.

Got to go west for the viz at the moment. Plenty of viz from Brighton onwards(west)

Thats said there was a bit of a chop last night.

Kev

'Go West young man'. OK, cheers for that Kev.
How is your season going so far?

Regards,
Dave.

In short its not.
Hopefully all will change on Saturday at Bognor during the comp.

From others there hardly been a fish seen, anopther couple of bass caught on Saturday (last) though.

Kev

Didnt do very well at all the one fish that I caught, a ray, was a cm undersize so was not allowed. it was a difficult dive for me out of the water for many months this was my first time in, felt very unfit. That said it was also the first dive for many months for Kev Daley and he caught 22 fish to win.

lovely sun shine of the south coast this morning, the bream will be nesting soon.

Kev

Never mind Kev. Better luck next time. Seems like that Daley is a bit of a machine. That was a cracking british record undulate. Amazing looking beasts, I used to see a few of those but they seem to be getting rarer, at least over here.

Dave.

Yes, really a beautiful fish. Never seen one but I've seen big stingrays there. Hard luck Kev, hope you do better next time.

Amphibian Sports in Chaple road West Norwood have started to stock Beuchat gear.
They have guns and suits and a range of Cressi fins.
Talking to the guy that runs it, James Dean (true), they are looking to expand into the spearfishing and freediving market, and may even run spearfishing trips from their boat later in the year.
Amphibian is a great shop and James a really helpful guy, local dive shops need our support to survive so at least give them a look.

Thought I put this link on the sussex thread for my garmin data card its covers from dover to Amsterdam & south east England:

[ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230466624693&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT]Garmin Data Card MEU002R England South East on eBay (end time 02-May-10 16:40:14 BST)[/ame]

It came with the boat I bought but is now surplus to requirements as I have brought one that covers my spearing zones

Any question just pm me.

Dived off Newhaven yesterday vis was bad in places and good in others ,my one opportunity for a 3-4 lb bass lost just wasnt fast enough i think the cold slowed me down :) not a great dive but first of the year . Saw a Top Knot on the Rocks apparently quite a rare fish .

Hi all, does anyone want to dive tomorrow (tuesday the 11th)? day or night dive I'm up for anything. I was thinkin' about Lulworth cove but you can suggest other places.:friday

Had a dive at Bognor today, the vis' was a cloudy 2-3m.
Temp' on the D3 said 13-14*.
The sea was absolutely flat calm, which makes a nice change.
Lots of small pollack about and a few bass came in on the high tide.
Took a fairly nice bass of 1.3kg (gutted weight), should have had two more but had problems aiming my new pneumatic (note to self, if you can see the end of the spear it will fly over the top of the fish, balls!)

Also came within a whisker of lying on top of a stingray, a big one too.
Dived down and was about to land on the nice clean patch of ground when it's 'nostrils' opened.
It is possible to stop a downward dive and even fin in reverse, I know 'cause I did it, but my speeding heart-rate ruined the dive, the ray didn't even flinch.

Regards,
Dave.
