Does the Suunto D3 have a stopwatch / lap timer that can be used for swimming laps at the surface?

Yep

Turn off the dive modes though 'cos if you put your hand a bit deep they kick in.

Thanks, does anyone know if you can set a re-settable timed alarm in the Mosquito like you can in the D3?

No, unfortunately Mosquito does not have a periodic alarm (just daily and depth alarms).

Hi,

I have a question.
unfortunately the right bottom button on my D3 broke in half! :(
Does anyone has experience like that? Do you think it is repairable?
Half of the button is at it's place, the other half is missing. I could see the metallic part of the button (not the watch body!).

Any suggestion? I thoght about bbring it to Suunto service (the trivial solution), just I wuoldlike to know, what to expect.

thanks,
Jee

And one mor ething: the button and watch is working well.

Now, I just tallked to my teammate, who also had the same problem with his Mosquito. The same button, the same half is missing - I think it is some kind of a design problem with the button. (that button is the most used one, I think). Well it was about 20.000 HUF for him, which means about 80 EUR.
The button could only be replaced by together wit hthe bottom part of the house of the watch, that's why it is so expensive.

The button broke off mine 2 years ago, i didnt replace it but have never tried pressing the button underwater to see if its still waterproof. It still works, and hasnt leaked. I suppose though it might just be good luck rather than good advice.

Yesterday i broke one of the buttons on my Suunto D3 in half. It was the lower button on the right side. I bought my D3 three years ago and this button is the most used one. I use timer up mode in every pool training but i don´t think this is the problem.

When half of a button is missing you can see why it is important to press the whole button/in the middle of it. If you press the button on only one side it can break.

Read back the last 5-10 reply. We were talking about just this one.
I think, it doesn't matter, where you push the button, this looks a design problem for D3. Maybe the plastic is too thick at the middle of the button.

BTW: I still haven't made it repaired mine. :(
I1m using the button, over and under the water, it is still waterproof, just ugly and a bit dangerous (it can scratch the skin).

When I broke the plastic button, it worked OK for another dozen diving days, then it leaked and self destructed. I wonder if pushing on the stem caused the leak. Either push it in too far or sideways enough to break the o-ring seal.

I use to use cheap Casio in a pool, there are perfect buttons and large digits for stopwatch.
I don't believe Suunto makes recall for crappy buttons (after expensive D9 recall and burn of a factory). But we can try to entertain self a little e.g.: publish a photo ... :t

The buttons of my Mosquito are still intact, but the depth sensor stopped to work. Does anyone of you know where the opening for the sensor is? I want to make sure it is not congested. I see five small holes on the back of the watch, but I am not sure if it not just for the alarm membrane. Or is the depth sensor opening under one of the buttons?

Trux
I pried all the buttons off a D3 and I'd be willing to bet you 100 Yen that there is no sensor under any one of them.

I haven't been to depth since the button broke (firts the half, now the whole plastic part is missing).

In pool it worked. Actually I used my Casio in pools (Forester), but it went crazy (after 7 years of intensive usage). It started to beep, and showed stupid numbers. It didn't stop until the batteriy ran down. Since I could not get to the Watch Repairman (see also: the Bycicle Repairman) with it, so it is in the drawer, and I use the D3.

bummer!

When these things happen to me I go for it my self. Prep a clean area and open up. Another idea might be remove battery and rinse in an ultrasonic cleaning tank (jewelers have them, so do many universities, workshops etc) with plenty of demineralized water, warm, and a little soap?

Nothing to loose I guess. Good luck.
