The temperature function on my D3 is recording 3 degrees C colder than actual temperature. Any one else have this problem?

I have got the Suunto D 4 and actually it also always shows 2-4°C colder temperatures... :wave

I remember others reported similar 'problems' too, worth remembering that the accuracy of the D3 is +/- 2C anyway... The below is from the manual...

Temperature display:
• Resolution: 1oC [1.5oF]
• Display range: - 20 ... +50oC [- 4 ... +122oF]
• Accuracy: ± 2oC [± 3.6oF] within 20 minutes of temperature change

Interesting you noticed that simos . What about your own experience in open water did you notice any differences between the computers

I don't have a D3 Steve - I tried a D3/D4 during courses etc but I didn't have anything to compare with. I ended up with a Tissot Sea Touch a few years back and I don't even use that, so thought it'd be a waste to buy a freediving computer.

To be honest, for the type of diving I do which is recreational I don't see the point in using a freediving watch or worrying about the temperature. In my world the situation is the following:

1. Freediving in the UK = cold = wear all the neoprene I own

2. Freediving in the med in the summer (Greece/Cyprus) = ok = no suit

I checked the D4 manual out of curiosity and it's still +/- 2C! Which is a bit poor, considering that even my Tissot has +\- 1C...

I guess given the accuracy (or lack of) of some of these freediving computers it might not be very meaningful to even compare one against the other. Might even get 4C difference...

Also it'd be quite interesting to know how fast they react to temperature differences eg if you hit a thermocline, would they register it fairly accurately/promptly etc

Does anyone find much use for knowing what the temp was for each dive/depth etc?

My D3 aligns pretty much up with the pool thermometer.
Though I notice a worsening in response time if I wear it tight on neoprene. I guess the sensor needs to be well exposed to some water flow.

Apneaboy My D3 is still limping along, one button has cracked again, I need to repair that one. Maybe in a few years I gather a salary that allows for some new dive computer. However it would be cool if I can break my D3 on an 80m CWT dive I still have on my wish-list. Perhaps an F11 or 2nd hand D4 is then in the cards for me

I call it 'Suunto temperature'

3 degrees out is normal. Depth wise i've seen 5 computers side by side in 30m of water register 1.5 metres difference in EXACTLY the same spot.

Depth and temperature are more of a hint of what is happening sometimes, especially when you first get in with it touching skin or under a suit or any other factor affecting pressure and outside water temperature
