g'day everyone,
i m new to freediving.
i havent done any proper training before but i have been a long time swimmer and will do a freedive course very soon.
anyhow, people have been saying that with underwater swimming (no fins) its more efficient to use arms than legs since leg muscles are bulkier and uses up more oxygen but i have tried and to me its more efficient using just kicking, using the arms move my body around to much and my heart rate speeds up by doing that. i can do 50m easily with just kicking but only around 35-40 with arms only.
is it more personal preference on what body parts to use?
and what are things to think about underwater to get my mind off breath-holding?
thanks in advance
kenny

actualy you should be using both. it is to some extent personal, but for best effecieny without fins you want to use your legs, glide, then as you bring them back for another kick thrust your arms back, then as you kick with your legs smoothly bring your arms back infront of you. i find that to be the most common and most efficient technique.

-Good luck, Matt

Most freedivers use both. I have seen some people using only arms or legs, but it is less efficient. I can do a longer distance with arms only than with arms and legs, but this is unusual.

What to think about? Whatever works best for you! :)
