Tanya Streeter and Martin Stepanek will appear on ESPNs breakfast show "Cold Pizza" on Monday morning, 1st August. I think the show goes out from 7-9am EST.

The fabled 7 am... a time I have not experienced in some ages. Too bad I had burned those bridges with the girl who had a TIVO. :)

In any case, I'll be excited to see this and hear Martin's wonderful accent which I have heard so much about. What is the format of the show? Will this be a sort of question and answer type segment?

Edit:

I extracted a little more from Tanya's webpage. Hope you don't mind m'lady.

"...kicks off a week where athletes from different emerging/extreme sports will share their stories and passion for unusual sports each morning."

And this from the cold pizza webpage:

"Cold Pizza airs live [on ESPN2] from New York City weekdays at our new time from 8am-10am ET, (re-airs 10am - 12pm ET)"

I didn't miss it afterall!!! I loved the intro.

"Remember when you were a kid and you tried to dive to the bottom of the deep end? How about trying to dive for the bottom of the ocean on one breath of air!?! We'l talk to two people who do it for fun."

This segment was great! It happened about 1:30 into the show for those of you who recorded it.

Right at the begining, Tonya got in a little argument with the interviewer over the risk of freediving. She said something like "We do not risk death. I am completely against that statement." They then went a little into the basics of freediving and how they train. They also spent some time talking about saftey. The anchor kept pushing the topic of risk and asked them about close-calls. Tonya talked about her sled malfuntioning and Martin said he had not really had any close calls.

I found out that I might be able to get this in digital format from a friend with a TIVO. I'll see what I can do.

In anycase, it was great to hear from some real freedivers to dispell these rumors about danger.

I caught it also, Tanya and Martin are great ambassadors for the sport. It was funny that the segment was on "extremists" and they then spent most of the segment debunking the myth that the sport was extreme.

The interviewers reaction when Martin told him that he could hold his breath 8 plus minutes was priceless. He couldn't believe that wasn't risky...
