Here's the short version...

Morning, say about 10mph winds blowing outa the west (forecast called east), it increased to about 15, as we were arriving to Tavanier Key, then around 9am it went down and by 11 the ocean was more like a lagoon, the sun bright, the water tempt was in the high 70's (perfect for a 1.5mm, I used my 3mm top only) ...and the viz...ahhh the viz...viz in Tavanier Key was pretty bad (for Tavanier) we had about a milky 15' -25' in most areas, the water was very particulated and lots of small jellyfish and jellyfish pieces....We cruised to a few small spearfishing ledges in Tavanier we had marked, and a few big rock piles we had spearfished off of on our last Tavanier Key visit. We also hit some new spearfishing locations in Tavanier, that were amazing, we counted 15 hogs in just one spot! We also saw quite a bit of just undersized gags, I saw what was about a 34" gag in about 50' that I did not shoot, to avoid getting hit by a boat. This Tavanier spearfishing adventure had a a bonus in that I was able to try my new prototyped slip tip....So our spearfishing Tavanier trip was a success the weather cooperated, the fish did too. Although the viz was pretty shabby we managed to fill a cooler full of fish, including a nice mackeral I shot at about 20' with my custom speargun, a graphite enclosed track bubinga wood/carbon fiber 130cm custom speargun (this was a gun I was testing for a client prior to shipping)

Hey SettingSteel, nice haul. There are no Triggers in OMF's Hall of Fame yet, perhaps some of those other fish too. (They need to know the weight.)

You have some entries in from this area but keen to get some more.

The Hall of Fame has had its latest update. If you haven't looked lately there are some great new entries with pictures and stories aplenty. New featured catch is a Halibut, no less. http://forums.deeperblue.com/spearo-board/82043-deeper-blue-spearfishing-hall-fame.html

Some members, however, have been missing out by falling foul of the rules. Make sure you take pictures and most importantly weigh your catch then with a little luck and some skill you too could join the ranks of the famous Hall of Fame DB spearo's.

Thx guys I usually gut my fish ASAshot so wt is off, I'll try and remember next time I shoot a potential famer...most of those fish are about average, but hopefully I'll have the honor of having one fish put on the HOF:fridaysooner than later

Gutted weight would be fine although obviously this would not represent the true whole weight. The HoF is not meant to be a competition as such but we couldn't think of a better way than weight to limit each species to 5 entries. Any weight will get you on the board if there are no entries or less than 5 entries for any species. However I would appreciate having a better than average specimen entered other wise I'll be for ever upgrading.

Good Huntin'

Dave
