I would like to correct the information. The Playa de las Americas is artificial beach built with "yellow" sand brought over from Sahara Desert. Not volcanic crush rock which is black- like some of the other natural beaches. It is a big open bay, with strong trade winds and is excellent for wind and kite surfing. The best spear fishing was done in the smaller protected from the wind secluded bays with calmer water and a lot of marine life. I would not recommend anyone to show up with spear gun on that public beach guarded by patrolling police and life guards. I am placing also some pictures for additional reference.

Hi I used to live in Tenerife and did a little bit of spear fishing. That bit of coast looks very familiar to me. Where is it? It looks a little like La Caleta.

You are right! It is down South on the tip of the Island - the coastal line around the area on Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio. Most of this costal side is not directly accessible from the road, so you have to "hike" for a short distance, but it is worth the effort.
