Tescos petrol station - £30 /£25 Action HD cameras?

I noticed an a Tesco petrol station forecourt this morning an ad for a picture/video camera, HD (high definition) in what looked like a waterproof enclosure for £30. Similar looking to this:

Perhaps suitable for spearing? (Sorry, I didn't have my reading specs. on so could not check the details).
I just searched on-line (I wouldn't necessarily expect to find garage specials there) and found this similar looking £25 camera with waterproof housing:

I don't endorse Tesco though - in fact I think they suck (expensive & very poor customer service on returns in my experience).

Saw an exceptionally clear spearing French video on youtube recently. Probably a good camera, although having fabulously clear water (Corsica) & clear blue skies probably helps a lot .

Cheapness, or rather affordability, can be an important feature for spearing, as the chance of loss or damage can be quite high.

Saw an exceptionally clear spearing French video on youtube recently. Probably a good camera, although having fabulously clear water (Corsica) & clear blue skies probably helps a lot ....

The GoPros look good but a bit expensive for my tastes. Also not that keen to clutter up my super-slim, super-light carbon fibre Omer XXVs with the weight & drag of camera + mount - although I came across this Epsealon carbon fibre mount yesterday clearly aimed at weight/drag conscious folk: http://tinyurl.com/zfpns59


However, I've seen some good spearing videos where the camera was not speargun mounted. I'm wondering where and how they mount the camera. Mask-strap mounted? Upper arm?

I see a couple of different camera both marked as "#1 best sellers" that look good value:

There are a lot to choose from! Get one now & sort out mounting over winter or wait till next year & see how specs/prices change?

GoPro's take pretty decent footage in my experience, but what sucks is how expensive everything they make is :

However the camera itself is pretty strong, with the ability to survive drops from spearfishing bags, hands.... Etc

If you're not keen on the bulk of the go pro, I believe they make a slightly smaller camera called the 'GoPro Session' or something like that.

Not sure how waterproof it is.

Although the GoPros may have pretty good quality, they are way too expensive.


Mr X, if you have a Rob Allen, RA makes a specific speargun mount. So does Mako.




The biggest problem with a head mounted camera is that it makes the fish look very small, especially at distance, you have to show the camera to prove that you didn't just shoot an undersized fish!

Go for what you think is right, you wouldn't want to go out spend a few hundred on a camera that you manage to lose in murky water, as you said.


I have no experience with any other cameras except for GoPros, so take all the above with a grain of salt.
