Im looking for a dive buddy along the Texas cost, I have quite a few connections in the port Aransas/ Corpus Christi aria... Im a younger diver but I have all the stuff I need. I have a 44' sail boat with 4 beds and anything else you need to live... I have a 14' whaler that I take out behind my sail boat, that’s what I dive off of the sail boat is really just a base camp of sorts. I free dive for the most part and at the moment Im short on blue water gear :head. I know most of the good oil rigs around this aria (one with un-matched red snapper and grouper) :mute . Right now Im just looking for some possibilities... I won’t be able to go out for another 3-4 weeks. Let me know if you’re close... I would love to get together.

MSgt. I' in the area and if I can manage schedule (MGR @ HEB in Seguin) I'd love to go. I don't scuba at all just freedive. Call on cell 210-416-9975. Kids are now in college and can I can actually do something. I'll be presenting food at Shrim-o-ree in Aransas Pass June 6,7,8 and off that Monday the 9th & will be in AP. Al Boos

that sounds great!!!!
i'm going to be in port aransas and corpus the whole summer so im sure there will be a time for us to meet up :friday. i'm not 100% sure about the 9th though... i get back from the academy on the 1st... then i have job interviews, after that i have to get working on the boats (been out of the water for 9 months) i'm buying a new motor for my small boat and have lots of work to do on the larger boat. but who knows there might be less than i think. i will call you when i get down there and see what all needs to be done. i cant wait to get back out on the rigs (its been to long)...

Just ring the bell and we'll see about hunting. Al

Hey Sarge, it's good to see that someone is interested in hunting the coastline! I sent a PM to you

Just filled a Lifeguard torpedo float with expanable foam for line float AND tried out a new really heavy duty vinyle sphere inflatable float. Work great. Will go from gun>shock/float line>sphere>torp. Torp has handles to hold on to should fish run real far.:martial

Yeah the hard plastic rescue float works very well. I've been thinking about filling one with expandable foam, I've filled a couple of speargun tubes with foam to increase weight/mass,and still keep adaquate floatation. I use Latex Foam exclusively. Only 10% expansion. The brand that I found is Dap. Here is a pic of some leftover rescue equipment from back in the day. Which gun are you using for Blue water shooting?

I don't have a big gun yet (but have a reel for one). I'm using a vintage Healthways w/ 36" shaft and flopper point. I have a smaller carbine Healthway with a triple point tip.

Hey guys,
I am new on here and relatively new to spearfishing. Scuba certified, but only freediving right now. Been in TX for a while and hunt the jetties and fish the rigs around Corpus and Port A every once in a while. Will be in the area from time to time throughout the summer. I have two guns that would work for most hunting. I know this is a kinda old thread but if any of you guys are still looking for another hunter/fisher/diver, let me know.

hey!
yah i am liveing in port aransas for the summer so i am always there and can make myself free at almost any time for a hunting trip ha ha...
i just bought a 22ft path finder boat... i hunt just about any where and any time the vizz allaws which hasent been much with all the big storms we have been haveing...

sixshooter, you got it man. will call tomorrow evening. oh yeah, when we were down the weekend of July 4 it was horrible. no sun, choppy surf, high wind, no viz, and a gd storm to top it all off!

just got a new boat about a 3 weeks ago and I took her our for her maiden spearing trip just over 10 miles off the coast of port Aransas Texas yesterday... to my amazement and luck I stumbled onto a large floating seaweed mass about a 1/2 mile in size and decided to forget the rigs and try for some triple tail and dorado. I left my large floats in the boat, along with my breakaway tips.... I was in the water no longer that 10 minutes when I saw something huge moving off to my left and coming my way fast, I turned and found myself looking at the largest blue marlin I have EVER seen (I work on private fishing boats that target bill fish) and all I could do was sit there and watch this once in a life time fish cruise curiously around me coming as close as 2-3 foot away at times!!!! after about 3 minutes of watching him and knowing I didn’t have the right equipment. I went back to the boat slowly to try to switch out, seeing the fish wasn’t spooked and didn’t seem to be going any where anytime soon. I got my stuff and was back in the water as fast as I could. but he was gone. :waterwork

I saw 3 more billfish after him, I was ready but they all stayed at a safe distance. I have only seen billfish two other time while spear fishing and in one dive I saw 4 (3 sail fish 1 marlin)!! I hope they stay in the aria at these concentrated numbers! I’m going back out tomorrow and again with some friends on the 27-28 so wish us luck!
and if any of you have tips for bill fish please let me know.

peace and good luck,
MSGT Murphy

Good god man,
I would have paid to be in the water with you. I need to get down there ASAP. I will most definitely bring some equipment for the big ones when I come. Good call on stopping by the floating weeds though. Wish you would have had a shot, but another good call by not shooting, he would have just ran away with all your gear. I am trying to make it down there the 1st weekend in Aug.

peace

MSgt. You watching the hurricane, I down on the coast most every other weekend and you better believe i'll be there when the surf is up, I'd like get some dive time in if you dont mind swimming with a banged up Corpsman. Hoorah

when the surf is up the conditions for diving are worse. harder to get out there as well as more challenging dive conditions. i wont dive if there is a tropical storm out in the gulf :naughty, but once it passes, everything will soon turn back to normal. hell it might even get better if the blue water comes in more

I wouldn't dive in a storm either, but I've been surfing hurricanes every year, every coast line, my perfect wave is big, fast and choppy. Your right when you say that the diving will be better after the storm, new sand bars, the ocean floor will move.
