cant get it off!!

My tub of silicone grease used for o-rings and lube etc heated up in the dive centre, the lid came off, and the grease has leaked all over the place, all over my spare parts, mask/fin straps, and it doesnt wash off!

It doesnt come off with hot water, what can i use? :yack

I have had some luck with 100% IP Alcohol. other then that, you're hooped. Silicone is evil when ti leaks :(

What about using a dry cloth, or in this case cloths ( time to get out all the old t-shirts ;) ) to wipe off most of the excess. Then theres a gun degreasing spray here that claims to safely remove gummed oil and grease, http://www.airsoft-guns.co.uk/acatalog/airguns_maintenance_cleaning_lubrication.html , not sure how it will work on the rubber parts though, maybe try a small spot on a old plastic or silicone lens first. There is also a eco line cleaner/degreaser here http://www.techspray.com/pindex.htm#1600 thats compatible to all plastics they list quite a few cleaners, not all compatible with all plastics, there and youll probably know best what your looking for so have a look who knows you mite find something handy. Theres another one here http://www.geneworks.com.au/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?p=32&pid=2453 but you may have to dilute as they dont state plastic or rubber cleaning as one of the uses. Otherwise will the grease not harden a bit if you put it in the freezer, seein that heat makes it runny, maybe extreme cold will harden it to such a state that youll be able to rub it off by just usin a cloth, worth a shot if the other products wont work. Hope this helps and good luck :)

Water won't do it because it's grease! Try using something that you normally would use to remove grease stains, e.g. dish wash soap

my dad spent the morning trying with dish washing soap.. no go i;m afraid

good ol' Dad

nail polish remover (acetone) might work, but it might also ruin whatever the grease got on...

querose is a solvent for silicon... but it smels and i'm not sure if it's good for rubbers...

i'll try to find out more...

a search on "silicone solvent" might help?

I have had a few bottles of "Seal Saver" leak all over my redive kit. I just wipe everything off with paper towels. The seal saver won't hurt things much.

Don't use acetone for any plastic parts or you'll ruin them.
You can try to clean all non-silicon pieces with vinegar.

off down the dive centre now, teaching this morning. when i get back i'll try some of the above
it has made such a mess. you cant even wipe it off with tissue :(

For a long time I hesitated to read this thread.

Now I'm so relieved.

that was the intention :D

i had the same feeling like bill, i wasnt relieved with the first sentence ''cant get it off" :naughty

There's some handy stuff called "Goo gone". I'm not sure if you'll be able to find it, but it works with the stuff that stickers leave behind, etc. Good luck :)

For the mask lenses: rinse, rinse and then pass it swiftly on the flame of a lighter to melt the residuals, then rinse again. It works with new masks stained by silicone during the manufacturing process. So it may work with old mask stained god knows how. I can't swear, but worth a try. And be careful next time: gear costs a leg!

"That white, icky gooey stuff..."

"cant get it off!!"

Like the others I wondered what this was about????

Was tempted to reply "Try licking it off, but don't swallow". However decided not too in the interest of good taste. Which is salty I'm led to believe!!!

Would you mind if I had my mistress contact you?

A masked man runs in to a spermbank and pulls a out gun

-Everybody on the floor!
-Sir, you don’t understand, it’s not that kind of bank!
-Shut up and bring me the deposit of client 564871!

As the teller comes back with the cup, the man takes it and walks up to another member of the staff.

-you! Put this in your mouth.
The woman looks confused and doesn’t take the cup. The man aims his gun at her head and repeats himself; put it in your mouth!
She does as he says but it’s not over there…
-Swallow!
The woman can’t believe what she is hearing, and the masked man has to remind her of witch one is holding the gun.
When she finally does as the man tells her, he takes of his mask to reveal his true identity.
The woman is stunned when she finds out who has just put a gun against her head, but the man just smiles and says; se honey, that wasn’t so hard now, was it?
