Today in the evening it started raining. Nothing unusual about that, but then I heard a thunderous noise of rain on the roof, so I went downstairs to investigate. In the garden, water was accumulating so fast that there was a depth of a few cm of water on the flat ground, and water was pouring off the roof on all sides, so fast that the gutter could not hold it.

I have a plastic tub of 150 litres with goldfish in the garden. Between the rain falling in the tub and the water pouring off the roof, the level started to rise with amazing speed. It looked like a stormy sea. In literally about a minute, it had risen about 15cm, and I had to go out to bail out the excess water to stop it overflowing. This meant standing in the curtain of water coming off the roof, so I got totally soaked.

It takes a while to fill the tub with a hose, and the rain could fill it many times faster.

I have never seen anything like it. I hope the weather gets better, but the forecast says there is going to be more rain. At least I don't live in an area which gets flooded easily. I hope everyone is OK.

yeah it's been a miserable few weeks - I hope the goldfish are ok. Yesterday I found a frog trying to get into our house out of the rain! weather sure is freaky.... I'm just glad I didn't make it to Glastonbury!

oh well. our quarry is getting deeper! 77m under the pontoon last weekend..... might make 80 in time for the comp at this rate....

oooh

I wish it would rain like this here in Eilat every once in a while, the closest we got to rain this year was a dribble which lasted for no more then an hour, and all evidence of it ever happening disapeared whithin 15 minutes because of the dry heat.

On the global warming note, yea, we had the longest winter ever this year.

I had a similar weather experience on Friday; I don't think I've ever known so much water in so little time. Then again, Mrs C had gone to the Nottingham Open in the hope of seeing some tennis, so rain was only to be expected.

Wimbledon starts today, so I guess you'll be needing your umbrella for a couple more weeks.

In was in Poland on the weekend and we got absolutely dumped on late Sunday evening, I haven't seen rain that heavy in years. Only lasted a few minutes though.

My wife has tickets to Wimbledon today... hopefully they'll get a couple of minutes play in.

Cheers,
Ben

Isn't only British.

It was POURING buckets here on Thursday and look what got put up on the roof of the building across the way. It was still there Monday but now they are tyring to take it down in-between wind gusts.... :duh

and it's still raining down in sunny Cornwall................ :(

Seems to have cleared up here for the moment. It will take a while to get the dust from the roof out of the fish water. Those goldfish have already had many adventures! :D

Due to the flooding, many ornamental fish have escaped from garden ponds. They will probably end up in rivers and lakes. Apart from numerous Goldfish, Carp and similar, I have heard of Channel Catfish, Wels Catfish and at least two species of Sturgeon escaping. These may well survive in the wild. British diving will become a lot more interesting.

Round two of the torrential rain and flooding, this time in southern England and Wales. Hope everyone is OK.

Every house on my road flooded except 3 homes. It peaked and receded just as it was lapping a third of the way up the gentle slope of my back garden. Phew..:(

see you next week and i might even let you buy me a beer or 10:) :) :)

Yep cheers Podge, it was rising up the road so fast I jumped in the car to race off and nick some sandbags from the roadworks. Luckily never got to me, but others are stuffed. Would not wish it on anyone.

oh! how awful that the goldfish nearly escaped, I would be so worried if they were mine! My fish are tropical and safely tucked up inside away from all this bloody rain. I always say when it rains "nice weather for flying fish" (well, they wouldn't get dry would they?!)
